  3. 3. Are you slouching or hunching?
  4. 4. (Or making yourself smaller in any way imaginable ;) )
  5. 5. If yes you should know, Good Posture can do wonders for you. (Yeah no kidding) Lets check it out .
  6. 6. Nonverbal behavior is the science of
  7. 7. Oh, Nonverbal behavior or body language, as its commonly called, is the study of effects of our bodys state, movement or action on ourselves and others
  8. 8. It includes many things like :- 1. Smile 2. Hug 3. Glance 4. Wink 5. Handshake 6. etc
  9. 9. Judging Peoples Nonverbals We get influenced and effected by observing other persons nonverbals
  10. 10. 1. Effect on our judgment We make sweeping judgments and inferences from body language Why? Because its the fastest way to know somebody.
  11. 11. By observing body language we can predict - a. the chances of a physician getting sued b. the outcome of senate elections
  12. 12. OH YES!
  13. 13. 2. Effect of our own nonverbals on ourselves Our thoughts, feelings, physiology get affected
  14. 14. Amy is interested in power dynamics i.e. nonverbal expressions of power and domination
  15. 15. So what exactly are they?
  16. 16. Animals expand or open up
  17. 17. When people win or achieve something they do the same thing
  18. 18. On the other hand on being powerless people close up or shrink
  19. 19. On seeing an opposing power we dont mirror it we complement it (It becomes an act of submission)
  20. 20. So is there any way to fix it, any way to overcome it ?
  21. 21. Q . Do our nonverbals govern our thinking ?
  22. 22. AND THE ANSWER IS
  23. 23. It works both ways (Action ) (being or doing) powerful / happy spread body / smile (Effect) (feeling) spread body / smile powerful / happy
  24. 24. INTERCONNECTIVITY
  25. 25. What is a Powerful Mind? A person who is - assertive, confident, optimistic, risk taker and has an abstract thinking is said to have a powerful mind
  26. 26. A powerful mind has TESTOSTERONE CORTISOL (dominance hormone) (stress hormone)
  27. 27. We want a person who is POWERFUL ASSERTIVE DOMINANT NOT STRESS REACTIVE LAID BACK
  28. 28. AN EXPERIMENTs RESULTS High power pose condition Low power pose condition 86% gamble 20% increase in testosterone 25% decrease in cortisol 60% gamble 10% decrease in testosterone 15% increase in cortisol
  29. 29. Our concern is this - But I feel like a fake, a fraud, an imposter
  30. 30. Self doubt creeps in
  31. 31. Solution to that is not Fake it till you make it
  32. 32. But fake it til you become it People change Change is part of life So change for the better
