Why Concrete foundations?

• Poured walls have been around for years• New to area for residential foundations• Significant growth in most major SE cities• Superior product for basement walls

Page 5: Concrete foundations presentations

Advantages of Concrete

• IRC limit 12 inch masonry to 4 ft fill without reinforcement and full grout

• 10 inch un-reinforced concrete allowed to 8 foot fill, addition of rebar increases depth

• Concrete foundation monolithic less prone to crack and settle

• 5 times stronger than masonry• Cost comparable to grouted masonry• Concrete watertight provides for dry basement

What If?

• Haven’t convinced you yet?• What if a 7,000 lb boulder slid down bank

from 10 feet high and hit the middle of a 12 foot high straight masonry wall that was 50 feet long?

• You’d start all over again after cleaning up the mess!

• Well, that’s exactly what happened to one of our walls
