Scholarships

Scouts Canada Scholarship Program

● 17 scholarships annually

● Application form and essay

● Two letters of reference (one from within Scouting)

● Canadian Universities or Colleges only

Candidates will be selected based on the following criteria:

● Scouting history, involvement and achievement

● Leadership contributions to Scouting

● Community leadership and contributions outside of Scouting

● Scholastic achievements up to the time of application

● Attitude and aptitude

Volunteer Opportunities

SCOUTERS-IN-TRAINING (S.I.T.)

Helps out in a younger section of their choice (Beavers 5-7, Cubs 8-10, Scouts 11-14)

Requirements ● 16-17 years old ● Willing to live by Scouts Canada’s principles ● Willing to participate in training/development programs for Scouters-in-Training ● Often members of a Venturer or Rover section

Duties

● Usually involved in leading games, songs, stories ● Help with crafts, outdoor activities ● Often work with smaller groups of youth members ● Helps out with administrative duties● Involved in program planning

Volunteer Hours● 1 hour per week plus weekly meeting

ACTIVITY LEADERS

Helps out in a younger section of their choice (Beavers 5-7, Cubs 8-10, Scouts 11-14) Requirements

● 14 to 15 year-olds ● Have good character ● Willing to live by Scouts Canada’s Principles ● Willing to take training/development for their age group

Duties

● Work with other leaders to help with games, songs, stories, crafts, etc. ● Help the youth members in small groups or on an individual basis ● May help with some administrative duties ● Involved in program planning

Volunteer Hours● 1 hour per week plus weekly meeting

VENTURER EXECUTIVE

Helps run the Venturer section Requirements

● Must be a Venturer● Willing to live by Scouts Canada’s Principles ● Willing to take training/development for their role● Willing to have regular attendance at meetings

Volunteer Opportunities

GROUP YOUTH COMMISSIONER (GYC)

Duties

Group 1. Supporting the Keeo, Sixers Council, Kim, Court of Honour, Activity Leader, Venturer Executive, and Scouter-In-

Training. 2. Contributing member of the Group Committee. 3. Work with the Group Commissioner to provide direct support to section leaders4. Work to encourage growth within the group. 5. Work with the Group Commissioner and the Area Youth Commissioner to set goals and build a personal

development plan. 6. Help bring in a new GYC at end of term

Area 7. Serve as an active, contributing member of the Area Youth Network. 8. Support participation in youth training events (e.g. FLEX, FAST, FOCUS, etc…) 9. Ensure that youth and volunteers are recognized for their contributions. 10. Additional duties as discussed in consultation with the Group Commissioner, and the Area Youth Commissioner.

Recommended Skills: ● Communication ● Time Management ● Planning ● Teamwork

Volunteer Hours● 5-10 hours per month plus any meetings
