Type of documentary Themes and narrative structure
•24 hours in A&E is a Fly on the wall documentary as it films the subjects without interference
•The documentary is multi strand as there is lots of different storylines taking place. It is Closed as there are no loose ends and all questions are answered. It is
Non Linear as it Doesn't follow time order use of flashbacks and flash forwards.
Camera Work
They use close ups in each interview with
the person who is getting interviewed looking
directly at the camera.
They use lots of high angle shots of the
hospital to show everything that is
happening at one time.
They use over the shoulder shots
of the doctors talking and helping
the patients.
Mise-en-scene
• They use dim lighting throughout the programme canting that sad things
were happening .
• They whole documentary includes doctors in nurses dressed in there work
clothes.
• When the interviewer is interviewing the interviewee they are dress in the
uniform.
• There is shots of ambulances connoting the emergencies that take place.
Sound
• They use phones calling beeping ands of ambulance sirens
at the start of the episode to show that there is
emergencies happening.
• They increase the speed of the beeping to and end with a
long beep connoting it could be the end of someone's life.
• They use a male voice over who spoke in a cockney accent
showing the audience were the programme is set.
Editing
• They use montage of clips in the opening credits to show
what the programme is going to be about.
• Zooming is used throughout the programme to show us the
pain that some patients are in.
• They use narrow depth of field when the interviews are
taking place so the focus is only on the interviewer.
Archive material
They use a countdown of
the time at the beginning
of the episode.
