You need to remember that you are anambassador of your country. For some people you might be the only person they know from your country and whatever you do they will believe that it is your country´s costume.

... at Work• Make sure to be at work on time. Being

punctual is important in Germany. Should you be running late (even just by a few minutes), make sure to tell your responsible colleague at work!

• Respect the company´s dress code.

... at Work• Every company has its own

formalities and rules. Make sure to learn about them in the beginning and don‘t be shy to ask. They will understand that you might not be familiar with the German costumes and will be happy to explain them to you. Also through observing others you will learn a lot.

... at Work• Depending on how you behave in the

company it might be the reason why they will or won´t take more interns in the future.

... towards AIESEC• We are here to always help you and try to

make your experience as memorable as possible! Should you have any questions, concerns or problems feel free to get in touch with your AIESEC contact at any time.

... towards AIESEC• However please don´t forget that we are

students and doing all the work voluntarily. We are trying our best to help you as fast as possible but we do not work for AIESEC as a full time paid job.

• Be solution oriented. We love people who actively suggest ways how to solve a problem.

• LCM = Local Committee Meeting

• When? LCM’s take place weekly or biweekly. We warmly invite you to join the LCM’s regularly. Check with your local contact when and where the LCM’s take place.

• Get in touch! LCM’s are a great opportunity to meet local people, many AIESECers and other trainees.

• Your voice counts! Use the LCM’s as an opportunity to introduce yourself to the Committee. Should you be interested in giving a short speech (e.g. about your country) let your local AIESEC contact know. LCM’s are a great opportunity for this!

• You might notice that Germans often tend to tell you directly what they are thinking. It is not meant to be mean, but just the way how Germans handle a clear communication.

• If you don‘t like our way, then give us some feedback. And let‘s work together without misunderstandings.

• Specially in AIESEC, we highly value good feedback. But why?

The German way

Page 12: 2. behaviour & feedback

• Because there is always a “Blind-Spot“ which we do not know about ourselves. (see picture)

• Feedback can make this blind-spot a little bit more visible and help us to become more self-aware.

• Therefore it is a great thing for self-develop – meant but also makes living, working and so on together easier.

Why feedback?

• Any feedback you have is highly appreciated! It helps us to move forward and to improve our organisation more and more.

• There are different models on how to give feedback. Commonly we refer to the ‘Feedback-Burger’ in AIESEC.

How to give feedback?

• If you make sure not generalize things that appear negative to you and wrap them up with your personal wish, the person you talk to is much more likely not to block, but to accept your feedback. Nevertheless feedback can also be positive.

• Finally, feedback represents a personal perception. Don’t start to argue when receiving proper feedback, but take it as an opportunity to improve yourself.
