What is a Solenoid?

A long straight coil of wire can

be used to generate a

nearly uniform magnetic field Many

practical applications

Iron core greatly intensifies magnetic field (common in electromagnets)

What are the Parts of a Solenoid?

Page 4: Solenoid

What to Remember?

When the coil is energized with current, the core moves and the flux linkage is increased.

Solenoid is a coil used to generate electromagnetic fields

When a current flows through the coil (magnetic field is greatly intensified), it goes around the coil and through its center in a doughnut shape
