Attention all juniors and seniors interested in Animal Behavior: The US Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP) has opportunities for you to support and gain experience in cutting-edge, Army-sponsored research at a Cornell University while earning a stipend of up to $3,000! The Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program (URAP) is a research assistantship program for college juniors and seniors who demonstrate an interest in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) to work as an apprentice in an Army-funded university research laboratory. URAP is designed so that selected students can apprentice in fields of their choice (among available opportunities) with experienced scientists. Attention all juniors and seniors interested in Animal Behavior:

The US Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP) has opportunities for you to support and

gain experience in cutting-edge, Army-sponsored research at a Cornell University while earning a

stipend of up to $3,000!

The Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program (URAP) is a research assistantship program for college juniors and

seniors who demonstrate an interest in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) to work as an apprentice in an

Army-funded university research laboratory.

URAP is designed so that selected students can apprentice in fields of their choice (among available opportunities) with

experienced scientists. The Cornell University opportunity will involve animal behavior research examining African giant

pouched rats, a species that has demonstrated skill in detecting land buried explosive devices.

DEADLINE to apply is Sunday, March 22, 2015. Visit http://www.cvent.com/d/trqnd8/4W & select program UCNY44U.

Project overview:

“Individual Behavioral Variation of Pouched Rats, Cricetomys ansorgei” will expose students to (i)

characterization of pouched rat behavior; and (ii) testing male and female differences in behavioral experiments.

Students interested in, but not limited to, animal science, animal behavior, behavioral ecology, ethology, neurobiology

and behavior, and psychology are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to students who have taken or are

currently enrolled Animal Behavior or Psychology techniques courses.

This is a training opportunity for the 2015-2016 academic year. URAP scholars will be required to dedicate an average of 8-10

hours per week for roughly 30 weeks (two semesters). Students will be paid $10 per hour stipend for a maximum of 300 hours

Selection criteria

minimum 2.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale),

two letters of recommendation, and

Animal Behavior related science major

URAP scholars will learn a variety of scientific techniques including behavioral observations, experimental design, and analysis

of data. Students will be immersed in the appropriate scientific literature, aid in literature review, and instructed in how to

present data (both in talk and poster formats). Students will also contribute to writing the methods and results sections of

manuscripts submitted for publication.

DEADLINE to apply is Sunday, March 22, 2015. Visit http://www.cvent.com/d/trqnd8/4W & select
