INTRODUCTION- Bio-2-Watts

• kick-started in 2015 with two off grid communities in

Kuje Area Council of Abuja, Nigeria - Riji and Kuwizhi

villages.

• Completion timeline of August 2016

• 124m3 Bio-Digester

• Generation Capacity of 20KW

THE FACTS

93million (The economist) people without access to

grid electricity from a population of 173.6 (World bank)

Electricity generation capacity fluctuates

between 1500MW-4500MW

In *Kuje Area Council alone we are

surrounded by 260 off-grid villages. *Kuje is one of the Six Area Councils in Abuja

500 metric tonnes of organic waste

generated daily within the immediate

project site.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Energy poverty in rural off-grid communities with dire consequences on productivity and the quality of life of the populace.

Bio-degradable waste landfilling from residential, commercial sources. Animal and crop waste landfilling from commercial farms and farming communities.

SOLUTION Conversion of biodegradable and

agricultural waste to biogas via an

anaerobic process.

Page 6: Ghana | May-16 | Ajima Farms and General Enterprises Nigeria Limited

HOW DOES IT WORK? Waste is feed to a bio gas digester which generates gas and in turns powers a biogas generator and electricity generated is been distributed by a Minigrid system

BUSINESS ECONOMICS

• Current monthly energy expenditure per household equal $20.04 to cater for their basal energy needs i.e. power mobile phones, batteries for flashlights and cooking wood/ fuel

• Projected monthly tariff via biogas equal $15 to provide electricity to power Tv, charge mobile phones, run refrigerator, power bulbs

• Kuje Off-grid Target market of 15,600HH * $15 *12 = $2,808,000

• That is $2.8Million a year service gap for the most basic of energy needs

IMPACT • Access to basic social services i.e. Automated

water system, Community Security enhanced, Health care center operated 24hrs

• Reduction in post harvest losses

• Capacity building of youths in biogas technologies

• Deploying of healthier cooking stove

• Value addition to agricultural products

• Reduction of Green House Gases (GHG)
