Our body has different parts.

Each body part does something special, something

only it can do.

Our body is made up of many parts. The different

parts of the body are also called its organs.

Page 3: 9.our body

SENSE ORGANS The organs which help us to feel or sense things around us are

called as Sense Organs.

These organs work together. These organs take messages from the outside world. Then they send messages to the brain through the nerves. After receiving the messages from the sense organs, the brain passes

orders to different organs of

body. Then the body works

according to the orders.

Eyes: Sense of sight

Ears: Sense of hearing

Nose: Sense of smell

Tongue: Sense of taste

Skin: Sense of touch

WHAT IS OUR BODY MADE UP OF

Our body is made up of many small parts called cells.

Cells are the building blocks of the body.

Cells are the

smallest part

of our body.

A tissue is made

up of many

similar cells.

An organ is made

up of different

tissues.

A group of organs

form an organ system

Eg. digestive system.

An organism or a

living being is made

up of different

organ systems.

HUMAN BODY SYSTEMS The organs of our body are grouped together to form a

system. These systems help the body to do special types of work.

There are eight main systems in our body:

Skeleton system provides form, shape and support to our body.

Nervous system sends orders to different organs of the body for action.

Muscular system helps to move about and do diffeent kinds of work.

Respiratory system supplies oxygen to the body.

Digestive system helps in taking food and making it ready for use by the body.

Excretory system helps to remove waste materials out of the body.

Circulatory system helps in the movement of blood to different parts of the body.

Reproductive system helps to produce young ones

The soft parts of human body are Muscles.

The hard parts of the human body are Bones.

The bones in our body forms a framework.

This framework of bones is called the skeleton.

It gives shape and support to our body.

Without the skeleton, we would not be able to stand

straight.

Note: framework:-The strong part of something that

gives it shape.

THE SKELETON

Page 8: 9.our body

BONES

Bones are hard and stiff.

They protect the soft inner body parts.

There are more than 200 bones that form our skeleton.

In a baby, there are about 300 bones. As the baby grows

there are only 206 bones since some bones join together.

JOINTS

The place where two or more bones are joined together is

called a joint.

We can bend our body around the joints.

Some types of joints are: Elbow joint, Neck joint, Wrist

joint, Shoulder joint etc.

Page 9: 9.our body

MUSCLES

Our bones are covered with muscles.

Muscles help us to move our bones.

There are more than 600 muscles in our body.

Page 10: 9.our body

EXCERCISE

The bones and muscles of our body work together to help us move, work and play.

We must eat healthy food and exercise every day to make our bones and muscles strong.

Strong bones and muscles allow us to work and play without feeling tired.

Posture:

The position of our body when we stand, sit, or walk is called posture.

We should always keep a straight and upright posture.

A good posture helps us to stay healthy.

It keeps our body in proper shape.

ORGAN SYSTEMS

AN ORGAN SYSTEM HAS MANY ORGANS THAT WORK TOGETHER TO

PERFORM ONE ACTION.

The bones in the body make up the skeletal system.

This system gives shape and form to our body

It also protects the inner body parts from getting injured.

There are 206 bones in our body.

All the muscles together

form the muscular

system.

Muscles help us to move

the different parts of our

body.

There are more than 600

muscles in our body.

The food that we eat

gets digested inside

our body.

The process of

changing food into

substances that our

body can use is called

digestion.

The organs which help

us do this form our

digestive system.

The air that we breathe through

our nose is called inhaled air.

This air goes down the windpipe

and reaches the lungs after which

the air is breathed out.

The air we breathe out is called

exhaled air.

The nose, the windpipe, and the

lungs together form our

respiratory system.

Exhaled air is impure as it has less

oxygen and more of a gas called

carbon dioxide.

in food through

our mouth.

food is thrown out

The brain, the spinal

cord, and the nerves

make up our nervous

system.

The brain gives

instructions.

It has nerves that take

these instructions to

muscles, bones and other

body parts.

The spinal cord connects

all nerves of the body to

the brain.

Our body cannot work without heart.

Our heart pumps blood to all organs of the body.

This blood is carried by blood vessels (thin tubes through which blood flows) to all parts of the body.

The heart, the blood and the blood vessels make up our Circulatory System.

The heart is made up of only muscles!

cleans our body by

throwing out body

wastes like urine,

sweat etc.
