Estimating the length of a supply chain for an FMCG Co.

Two competing companies from FMCG Sector:-

Haldiram's is a major Indian

sweets and snacks manufacturer based

in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India. Its products

include frozen foods such as frozen meals, ice

cream, and kulfi, namkeen, sweets, cookies, crackers, sherbet, papad,

savories, chips and other snacks.

Bikano is an International brand of Bikanervala

that contains sweets, namkeens, snacks, papads,

sharbats, etc manufacturer based in Chandni

Chowk, Delhi.

The products are:- Aloo Bhujia and Moong Dal Namkeens

Estimate:- In below table, we can see that sale of product at Bikano

retail shop.

Analysis:-

• Compare time taken by large firm (Haldiram’s) and small firm

(Bikano).

In each table, we can see that it takes almost 3 to 4 months for

Haldiram’s product as for Bikano product takes almost 2 to 3

months to travel from supplier to customer end.

• Compare and contrast the time taken in chain for a fast moving

product (Haldiram’s Aloo bhujia) Vs. a slow moving product

(Haldiram’s Moong dal)

While in unorganized shops,time taken by Haldiram’s Aloo bhujia is

fast as compare to Haldiram’s Moong dal but in organized

Haldiram’s retail shop , Moong dal namkeen is fast moving product.

• Compare the time taken by a chain for the organized retailer

(Haldiram’s/Bikano) Vs a neighborhood Kirana

(Vikrat/Ramkrishan)

In organized retailer shops , monthly sales are more compare to

unorganized shops but both taken up to 3 months of time in supply

chain network.
