Customer

Inex Partners, Finland

• Inex Partners Oy is a fully-owned subsidiary of SOK corporation.

Its main task is to provide warehousing, logistics and

transportation services for S-Group one of the two major Finnish

retailers. The company counts 2,200 employees. Warehousing and

processing area are ca. 300,000 m2 and transportations consist of

1,000 vehicle combinations a day. Inex Partners turnover was

3,5M€ in 2013.

• Inex is operating from two central distribution centres in Kilo and

Sipoo and a number of regional warehouses. The new central DC

in Sipoo will be highly automated

• Inex has been using both regular folding Roll containers, pallets

and plastic crates for the grocery and non-food distribution

Customer Business Need

1. Inex was looking to renew the load carrier fleet to reduce the logistics operational costs and make

the manual handling in the whole Supply Chain easier and more cost-effective. The concrete

improvement targets for the Roll Container (RC) were:

Making the RC handling an easy 1 person operation with improved functionality and

ergonomics

Reduced handling time of load carrier in DC when preparing RC for order-picking

Reduced handling time in stores when preparing RC for return transport

Improve the ergonomics, handling and durability of the old wire base with a new plastic base

2. Inex is building a new Central Distribution centre in Sipoo (ready 2016) where the Roll Container

fleet needs to comply to the highly automated order-picking. Thereby there was a need for a high

quality load carrier that operates smoothly in automation and minimizes non-productive hours.

3. Inex was also looking for a load carrier that is visually representative and can effectively work to

promote the S-Group brand when used in stores

Solution

• K.Hartwall started working together with the customer by mapping and

identifying the different requirements of the new load carrier solution

from all parts of the supply chain.

• The joint project team also identified and calculated the process

changes and business benefits of the new load carrier solution when

implemented in the existing supply chain infrastructure.

• The implementation started with a pilot where 1,000 Foldia units and

1,000 plastic bases to be retrofitted were supplied to pre-determined

stores to validate the business case.

Results

1. The pilot of the new Foldia® units was a clear success, with the new units working throughout the

supply chain as predicted and reducing the manual handling both in DC and stores.

2. The new Foldia® was accepted by both the customer and the main automation supplier as the new

standard load carrier to be used in the automated Sipoo Distribution Centre.

3. The new plastic base has improved the handling of e.g. boxes and crates in both DC and stores

4. The new Foldia® has been taken in use at Inex distribution and the plastic base has been branded

with both customer colours as well as logo.

5. Inex Partners are committed to the new Foldia® for all new purchases, as well as retrofitting old

units to renew the complete load carrier fleet within the next 3-4 years.
