Dear Friends

I have been searching out Christmas presents to give and thebright and sparkly things in the shop bring all kinds of thoughts tomy head. The recession takes its toll and the decision to give andwhat to give can cause concern. And yet there is no doubt that ifwe keep in mind the reason for the season then our hearts arewarmed by the thought of giving something to our loved ones.

There's an old saying which says:

The secret of living is not in the keeping but in the giving

For only what we give away,

enriches us from day to day,

and only when we learn to love

will man find peace with God above

The amazing events at Bethlehem on that first Christmas continueto remind us of the truths which are important for our lives and wellbeing. God loves the world enough to give but do we love enoughto give?

There is a danger of restricting giving to family and friends and tobe caught up in materialism and the commercialism of Christmasthat ultimately leads to self-centredness. Its so easy to forget thosewho will be cold, homeless, hungry, refugees or living in war tornplaces this Christmastide.

We are fortunate in this country, that perhaps we should thank Godfor his generosity to us by giving to others in need through aidorganisations or to his church so that we can continue toexperience the care the church gives in all the changing scenes oflife.

George and I wish you every blessing for Christmas and the NewYear.

Parish Councillor VacancySouth Marston Parish Council currently has a vacancy on the ParishCouncil.

If you would like to know more about becoming a Parish Councillor andwould be interested in joining the team, please contact the Parish Clerkon 01793 820529 or email: [email protected] note that Parish Council meetings are held the third Tuesday ofthe month at 7.30pm in the Village Hall.

Allotment Site UpdateSouth Marston Parish Council together with Stratton St MargaretParish are intending to work together to expand the South MarstonParish Council allotment site on Highworth Road. The plot of land, formally the home of the gliding club, is leased from Honda andapproximately 40% has remained unused for the past 25 years.

Some 20 or more 10x10 plots could be feasilbe if the land can becleared. Sample excavations on the site have shown good qualitytop soil. However, the area is covered in thick bramble that inhibitsa detailed survey.

This may involve excavation of founfations from the ex-gliding club.Excavation may uncover a water connection that could bereconnected, though at cost. This has potential for the future butreconnection would need deepere investigation as to costs.

Strattan St Margaret Parish Council has their own ground workequipment and work force. All work to be funded by, and carriedout by Strattan St Margaret Parish Councils man power andequipment, at no cost to South Marston Parish Council.

A date for clearance work has been suggested for the 10thDecember 2012 and is expeccted to last 2 days.

Letters will be sent to all allotment tenants and householdersbordering the site informing them about the clearance work and theexpanded site.
