What is NYC energy compliance?

In 2007, part of the effort PlaNYC, the Greener, Greater Buildings Plan (GGBP) was enacted. Under this plan, buildings 50,000 square feet or more are required to undergo an annual benchmarking of energy and water use with public disclosure, as well as an audit and retro-commissioning every ten years.

Local Law 84Next Deadline: May 1st

The first law in GGBP, Local Law 84 (LL84) requires the following: Buildings 50,000 square

feet or more undergo water and energy benchmarking.

Building owners or property managers submit energy and water usage data online to the City by May 1st.

Data submitted will be publicly disclosed.

Local Law 87Next Deadline: December 31st

The third law in GGBP, Local Law 87 (LL87) requires the following: Buildings 50,000 square

feet or more undergo an energy audit and retro-commissioning of base building systems.

Completed Energy Efficiency Report (EER) electronically.

Building owners or property managers submit the EER once very ten years to the City by December 31st.

How iAG Energy does it… Local Law 84;

iAG Energy will generate a benchmarking report that covers all types of energy usage in the entire building, including electric, gas, steam solar, etc. The report is completed using Portfolio Manager, an application created by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Local Law 87; Performed by certified engineers at the building, the energy

audit consists of an all-inclusive evaluation of all the building’s energy systems. Our engineers will evaluate the building’s performance and make recommendations on how to increase energy efficiency and related performance efficiencies.

Using the information gathered from the energy audit, a retro-commissioning engineer determines deficiencies in the building’s base energy systems that need to be fixed or upgraded.
