Heathrow Airport’s new Terminal 2 complex, opened in 2014 as part of £1.3 billion improvements. Terminal 5 was voted ‘World’s Best Airport Terminal’ by the Annual World Airport Awards in the same year.

The Government-backed Airports Commission is recommending the construction of ‘extra runway capacity’ in the south east in order to cope with growing demand. Heathrow is a strong contender with proposals for a third runway looking ever more possible.

Hounslow skills and employment strategy aims to support local employment growth & enterprise. The initiative plans to improve access to skills and matching between demand & supply and will improve young people’s progression into employment.

£220 million makeover. The scheme included a mix of retail, leisure and office space as well as additional community facilities and around 480 new homes.

Other recent developments in the region are Reflexion, a state-of-the-art glass-sided complex with an oval piazza offering over 480 homes, and Axiom which provides over 800 new residential properties.

Hounslow Council are pushing for a transport link connecting the borough with Crossrail and HS2. This would revitalise the Golden Mile and boost private investment.

Brentford has one of the UK’s largest ever infrastructure investment projects with £800 million to revitalise roads and pavements.

TransportAir: Hounslow is adjacent to London Heathrow Airport, which provides flights to 185 destinations in 84 countries throughout the world, as well as ample road and rail connectivity.

Rail: The region is served by a total of 15 rail stations, on both overground and underground rail routes. Crossrail services are planned for Hayes, West Drayton and Heathrow.

Bus: The region is amply served by no less than 47 bus routes, with both day and night-time bus services providing transport links throughout the greater London area and beyond.

Road: The district is located adjacent to the M25 Motorway, and has source of the M4 within its district. The A406 North Circular and the A205 South Circular routes also meet in the borough. The nearby A40, A312 and M40 provide excellent links with the country’s road network.

Shopping & Dining: The borough has ample retail opportunities for shoppers of all kinds. Chiswick High Road for example, contains a mix of retail, restaurants, food outlets and expanding office and hotel space. Its broad streets encourage cafés, pubs and restaurants to provide pavement seating.

Sport & Culture: There is a wealth of choice throughout the borough, with five historic houses, brewery tours and more. The Watermans Art Centre in Brentford is located on the banks of the Thames, overlooking Kew Gardens. Among its attractions are a gallery, theatre, cinema & restaurant. The Musical Museum and the London Museum of Water and Steam are also located nearby.

Green Spaces: Hounslow Heath is around 200 acres of open space and nature reserve. It has a huge range of wildlife: heathland, meadow, scrub, woodland and wetland and is home to over 132 bird species and several rare insects & plants. There is a network of walking and cycling paths, plus a public golf course. Another popular area is the award-winning nature reserve of Bedfont Lakes Country Park. This 180 acre site has an orienteering course, playground, bridle path and nature trail. The park is also home to The Princes Club, Europe’s largest water-ski and wake-board facility.

Education Shops & Leisure

Schools: Hounslow has 14 primary schools, 16 secondary schools, 1 further education college and 12 independent schools. Notable schools include: St. Mark’s Catholic School in Hounslow is a co-educational secondary school and sixth form college with academy status. It caters for students aged between 11 and 18 and has been classed as outstanding in recent Ofsted reports.

Further and Higher Education: West Thames College is renowned for its welcoming and supportive environment and has two campuses: the main one in Isleworth and the Skills Centre in Feltham. The college specialises in professional and specialist vocational training at both further and higher education levels.

Hounslow is well placed to access all of London’s best universities. The University of Westminster has a sports ground based in Chiswick and the area is a popular choice for student accommodation. Osterley Park
