Ellenbrook sponsors Secondary College Music

Sixty one students from Ellenbrook Secondary College will get the chance to tour New Zealand this July as part of a music tour, giving them the unique opportunity to perform at an overseas venue. Ellenbrook Arts has sponsored the tour and Eden Lennox, the Executive Director said the trip was an amazing opportunity. “We are very fortunate to have this strong specialist music programme at our local secondary college and this is the opportunity of a lifetime for these students. We are excited to have been able to contribute,” Eden said. The tour runs from 2 July to 12 July and involves the schools concert band, two choirs, a jazz band, a guitar assemble, a quartet and a woodwind and brass ensemble. The students will perform at three schools as well as community and outdoor venues whilst in New Zealand. They will also participate in workshops with the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra, The Auckland University, a drum workshop with Rhythm Centre and a song-writing workshop with top Ukulele Trio ‘ The Nukes’. Mr Stuart Rhine-Davis, the Director of Music for Ellenbrook Secondary College, said that tour was a completely new approach from previous school tours. “The entire student cohort will be involved in presenting a diverse range of styles and performing in an array of ensembles involving all aspects of performance. “The opportunities that present themselves over these 10 days will be enormous. Being able to perform in these significant public venues at this standard and level will be a huge benefit and honour to our students,” Mr Rhine –Davis said.
