What is Internet ? A global computer network providing a variety of information and communication facilities

It consists of interconnected networks using standardized communication protocols

It carries vast range of information resource and services as inter linked hypertext documents

ICANN ( Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) is the authority that coordinates all operational activities.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is the independent regulator of the telecommunications business in India.

Formed in 1997

Headquater is in New Delhi,India

Main objectives of TRAI is to provide a fair and transparent policy environment for emerging global communication system.

Net Neutrality is a terrible, technical sounding phrase, and suffers for the lack of an easy definition.

The same data cost for access to each site (per KB/MB).

All sites must be equally accessible

The same access speed at the telecom/ISP level for each (independent of telecom selection)

IMPORTANCE OF NET NEUTRALITY

A free and open internet stimulates ISP competition. A free and open internet helps prevent unfair pricing practices.

A free and open internet promotes innovation.

A free and open internet drives entrepreneurship.

Net Neutrality going viral:

Over lakh of emails have been sent to TRAI for net neutrality.

Rallies have been out for long.
