Access to energy
1.4 billion people worldwide currently without access to energy
Universal Access to Energy is the 1st objective of the UN Sustainable Energy for all Initiative (Enel is the only Italian company to sit in the Board of Directors)
Within the framework of SE4All the Enel Group has launched a dedicated program, “Enabling Electricity” including over 30 projects to guarantee access to electricity for 5 million people in the world
Brazil - Ecoelce, Ecoampla & Chile – Ecochilectra
The objective is to stimulate, through discounts on electricity bills, the collection and recycling of waste in the poorest areas of the large urban centers, and at the same time, to allow “legal” use of electricity to people.
ENabling Electricity 2011-2014Enel Main Projects
Partnership with the Barefoot College
Enel Green Power has signed an agreement for the realization of a rural electrification project in Latin America with Barefoot College. The model devised by Barefoot College involves 39 indentifying young, illiterate grandmothers (aged 35 to 50), to be put on a special training program to become Barefoot Solar Engineers.
TOB (Triangle-based Omni-purpose Building)
An independent habitable structure, easily assembled and completely flexible. Through exploitation of the available renewable resources, it produces electricity and accumulates it to make it available when necessary, with the aim to provide energy and essential services in isolated areas

Enabling Electricity 2015 - 2019New Enel Criteria
7
All sustainability projects that are ‘energy’ related by providing:• Access to electricity for disadvantaged people • Training and capacity building on energy • Technological and infrastructural accessibility • Fostering Energy efficiency • Promotion of energy awareness
ACCESS TO ELECTRICITY
Projects that are focused on enabling disadvantaged individuals and communities to have access to electricity, including low income and disadvantage customer facilitations
ABATING ECONOMIC BARRIERS TO ACCESS ELECTRICITY
Initiatives strongly focused on technical aspects, usually designed for workers, contractors, or people in rural communities
PROMOTING TECHNICAL TRAINING AND CAPACITY BUILDING ON ENERGY
Activities focused on infrastructural development aimed at improving access to electricity for communities in isolated areas
DEVELOPING TECHNOLOGICAL AND INFRASTRUCTURAL ACCESSIBILITY
Projects designed to increase and develop energy efficient consumption among customers and use FOSTERING ENERGY EFFICIENCY
PROMOTING ENERGY AWARENESSPromoting projects designed to increase and develop people’s awareness of energy through workshop, training session, lecture and so on

Global Market is expected to rapidly grow for utility scale for ESS
Source: Navigant Research ‘’Advanced Batteries for Utility-Scale Energy Storage
Catania 1 (PV – Italy, 10MW limited to 8MW)- 1MW/2MWh Nickel Chloride Battery installed on December 2014, currently under commissioning
- Aim of the experimentation: focus on energy shifting and ancillary services, while limiting unbalances (COD last week)
Potenza Pietragalla (Wind – Italy, 18MW)- 2MW/2MWh Lithium Battery, to be installed by May 2015; battery currently under construction
- Aim of the experimentation: focus on limiting unbalances and ancillary services
Additional Wind Site: 4MW/1MWh Lithium Titanate Battery, to be installed by 2015. Battery currently ready for installation. To be used for ancillary services using high C-rate battery
Additional renewable site: 1,5MW/3MWh Li-Ion Battery to be installed early 2016 to be used for energy service (low C-rate)
Grid Connected RES Power Plants:
A. Ancillary services (active grid integration and regulation)
B. Energy shift (price arbitrage)
C. Unbalance reduction
Pilot projects on-gridIPP Renewable with Storage
12
Off-Grid RES-Hybrid Power Plants:
Primary Energy Resource for remote sites, system must be capable of replacing a conventional generation set, while ensuring reliable operation in typically harsh Environments
Emerging business of potential EGP interest
Ollagüe (Hybrid Generation Power Plant with storage - Chile) – Construction completed, in evaluation phase
Description- PV, 200 kWp 3Sun thin film modules- WTG, vertical axis, 30kWp- Sodium Nickel Chloride battery 250 kW - 520kWh energy
storage system- Diesel Generators as backup- Additional, 2 Thermodynamic systems of 1 kWe + 3kWt
each, providing hot water to local school
Aim of the project - First of a kind off-grid generation system for EGP, possible
model to applied to similar off-grid or grid limited sites- Supply 24hs/day 7 days/week energy to an off-grid village
placed at 3700 AMSL in a desert area of Chile, removing the restriction of the village to having access to energy during night time
- Minimizing the consumption of fuel from existing diesel generator to only limited time in winter (expected >84% of generation from RES)
- Testing advanced renewable technologies and storage system in a harsh environment, with large temperature range
Pilot projects off-gridHybrid Generation Power Plant with storage
