What does Preposition mean? A preposition is a part of speech that shows a relationship between two things. • Location (on, under, in)• Timing (before, after, during)• Direction (from, toward, to) • Prepositions don't stand alone, they work in groups of words that we call

prepositional phrases

What do you know about Preposition?• Preposition are words that show the relationship

between a noun or pronoun and some other word or element in the rest of the sentence.

• The word itself suggests (pre meaning “before”)• Preposition is a word in a position before its object• The word preposition comes from the idea of

being positioned before.• A prepositional phrase will function as

an adjective or adverb. As an adjective, the prepositional phrase will answer the question Which one?

• As an adverb, a prepositional phrase will answer questions such as How? When? or Where?

• Sometimes a noun within the prepositional phrase seems the logical subject of a verb

• You will never find a subject in a prepositional phrase
