OPLS - Obstacle Proximity Lidar System

The OPLS provides an aid for hovering in confinedspaces, informing pilots about the DISTANCE TO THECLOSEST OBSTACLE .

The system uses different laser scanners to draw acontinuum disc all around the aircraft, at the main rotorheight. Any obstacle intercepted by this disc ispromptly notified to the crew members via theCOCKPIT DISPLAYS and the INTERCOMMUNICATIONAUDIO SYSTEM.
