EMF Alternating vs. Direct Current Magnetic vs. Electric Fields Low Frequency vs. High Frequency Different instruments for different fields Alternating Current (AC) Magnetic Fields

commonly referred to as EMF Gauss meter for AC low frequency

magnetic fields Unit of measurement is milliGauss (mG)

The Strength of the EMF’s is determined by:

Current flow (amps) or “load on line” Distance between the conductors Wire configuration Distance from the source Line or Point source Fields tend to fluctuate over time (different

current flow)

New School Construction in Phoenix, Arizona

Page 13: EMF in Real Estate Transactions

Coldwell Banker Presentation Feb. 7, 2007

Set-back requirements for new school construction

Distance depends on line voltage and ranges from 100 feet to 200 feet

Average field strength should not exceed 1.25 mG at new school campuses

The World Health Organization lists EMF’s as a potential carcinogen and puts it into the same risk category as lead and diesel exhaust.
