Annual Youth Assembly at the UN

The Youth Assembly is an annual gathering of hundreds of young people from around the world who seek practical ways to contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals, global networking and social entrepreneurship skills as well as meeting with and contributing to civil society formally affiliated with the United Nations. The Youth Assembly is about showing how one person can make a difference by engaging with the challenges of the present and being an educated and active citizen.

INTERNATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL

The International Youth Council (IYC) is a non-profit, nongovernmental organization founded at the UN Youth Assembly in 2007 dedicated to giving young people across the world both collective voice and a mechanism to support global sustainable development.

Page 9: Youth Mobilization & Global Climate Politics

Our mission is to provide youth with project support, leadership opportunities, and a broad networking base. We advocate for greater youth representation in international policy-making, including official representation within the United Nations. Our belief is that our generation and our interests are not adequately represented. As capable advocates of the future, we wish to ensure that the leaders of today leave a world worthy of our inheritance tomorrow.

Official Youth Delegate Declaration

The UN Progamme on Youth declares that, “youth participation in decision making […] leads to better policy formulation, implementation and evaluation.” Moreover, as highlighted in the Synthesis Report (SR) on Article 6 of the Convention, young people are potent agents for change. This has been demonstrated time and time again at past UNFCCC meetings, where young people proved to be constructive partners in the negotiations. As stakeholders, it is important for governments to fully consider the concerns of youth in negotiations that concerns our future.
