Since 2003 the Women’s Policy Institute (WPI) has trained more than 200 women on California’s
legislative process.
WPI fellows have achieved 13 legislative wins: 12 bills passed into law and one resolution passed
by the legislature.
Every dollar invested in advocacy work yields $91 in benefits, according to the
National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy.
“When you give a woman voice and you give her the knowledge of her own power and [the knowledge] that she has control over her own life, her children’s lives and her community . . . that’s giving somebody freedom.”
Kim Carter, former WPI fellow, executive director of Time for Change Foundation
“The success of the Women’s Policy Institute has really been one of the biggest surprises in my career. These women have been able to move so much policy.”
Judy Patrick, president and CEO, Women’s Foundation of California
“My experience at WPI means I will have so many resources to drawn upon. WPI was where I learned about state commissions. When I saw the redistricting commission opportunity I knew it was a long shot but felt that I had something to offer and that I would have a lot of support.”
Connie Galambos Malloy, former WPI fellow and inaugural member of California Citizen’s Redistricting Commission
