session concentrated on the requirement for bilateral and multilateral arrangements in science and technology.

During the period of three-day Forum the ministers in attendance anticipated a gesture calling for a new science and technology support fund. This new fund would be succeeded by the African Development Bank (AfDB).

The Moroccan Minister for Science and Technology, Moulay Hafid Elalamy, emphasized the significance of science and technology research in furnishing actual renovation in Africa. "We need to adapt science and technology to Africa's needs." The Minister then called on the community to "recognize and act upon the need for cooperation in science and technology".

Africa’s Top Business School Seeks Free Thinkers for Radical Innovation

European health ministers agreed to launch an immediate

review of the screening of passengers departing Ebola-hit countries in West Africa and boost them if the measures are found to be failing.

The ministers also agreed at a meeting in Brussels to coordinate measures at entry points to the 28-nation European Union, although any decision on screening rests with individual countries, health commissioner Tonio Borg said.

Borg said the European Commission, the EU executive, "will immediately undertake an audit of exit screening systems in place in the affected countries... to check their effectiveness and reinforce them as necessary".

The review of the exit screening in Liberia, Guinea and Sierre Leone will be conducted in coordination with the World Health Organization, he said.

Italian Health Minister Beatrice Lorenzin told the same news conference he wanted the database plan in place "as soon as possible

WHO congratulates Senegal on ending Ebola Transmission

WHO officially declares the Ebola outbreak in Senegal over and commends the country on its diligence to end the transmission of the virus.

The introduced case was confirmed on 29 August in a young man who had travelled to Dakar, by road, from Guinea, where he had had direct contact with an Ebola patient.

Senegal's response is a good example of what to do when faced with an imported case of Ebola. The government, under leadership of President Macky Sall and the Minister of Health Dr Awa Coll-Seck, reacted quickly to stop the disease from spreading.

The government's response plan included identifying and monitoring 74 close contacts of the patient, prompt testing of all suspected cases, stepped-up surveillance at the country's many entry points and nationwide public awareness campaigns.

WHO treated this case as a public health emergency and immediately

dispatched a team of epidemiologists to work alongside staff from the Ministry of Health, and other partners, including Médecins sans Frontières and the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

On 5 September, laboratory samples from the patient tested negative, indicating that he had recovered from Ebola virus disease. He returned to Guinea on 18 September.

Senegal has maintained a high level of active “case finding” for 42 days – twice the maximum incubation period of Ebola virus disease – to detect possible unreported cases of infection.

While the outbreak is now officially over, Senegal's geographical position makes the country vulnerable to additional imported cases of Ebola virus disease. It continues to remain vigilant for any suspected cases by strict compliance with WHO guidelines.

because it will remain the best way for us to follow the movement of passengers".

The ministers also agreed to "coordinate national measures" at EU arrival points such as having common protocols and procedures on passenger questionaires.

Several health workers have been evacuated back to Europe from Africa with Ebola, but the only recorded case of transmission on the continent so far is a Spanish nurse in Madrid.

With the decision up to member states to decide what measures to take, the meeting was focused on coordinating efforts to stop the spread of the worst-ever outbreak of the virus, whose victims have almost all been in west Africa.

Borg said experts will hold a

"workshop" in Brussels on November 4 "to exchange best practices on infection control" but reiterated the European position that an epidemic on the continent is highly unlikely.

But Borg said the commission is expected to sign a deal in the next few weeks with the US State Department to use planes

operated by the American government to evacuate any infected EU health workers.

Natalia Alonso, an official with the British-based humanitarian group Oxfam, criticised the EU meeting which drew 21 health ministers at short notice. "Europe was more concerned about its border controls rather than what it should be doing to contain the spread of the disease in West Africa," Alonso said. She said the EU should deploy more medical staff and equipment as well as military personnel in the next two weeks. EU nations have contributed aid worth about 450 million euros ($575 million) to Ebola-hit countries, including 180 million euros from the Commission, officials said.

The University of Cape Town Graduate School of business is inviting applications to its pioneering MPhil specialising in Inclusive Innovation – a hands-on postgraduate degree that aims to generate practical and scalable sustainable solutions to African challenges.

Africa’s top business school, the University of Cape Town's Graduate School of Business (GSB), is looking for a special kind of person to join its 2015 intake of the Master of Philosophy specialising in Inclusive Innovation (MPhil).

Now in its third year, the MPhil is an interdisciplinary, research-based degree designed to enable free thinking individuals with big ideas to work collaboratively on the development of sustainable solutions to Africa’s most intractable problems.

To further support the achievement of this goal, the Bertha Centre for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship is offering two scholarships for the 2015 programme – to be awarded to outstanding candidates from across Africa.

“Innovation is now firmly recognised as the key driver for growth in both developed and developing economies – but the reality is that the take-up of innovation in Africa, as a key solution to socio-economic issues, is low,” says Dr François Bonnici, director of the Bertha Centre for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the GSB. The MPhil is positioned to change this.”

Bonnici says that the MPhil

creates the conditions for creative people from across the spectrum of disciplines to work together on complex challenges in what is a vital first step in allowing innovation to thrive in Africa.

Students on the MPhil will collaborate with entrepreneurs in the Solution Space, an innovation and entrepreneurship hub located on the GSB campus where learning and action converge to support the development and the incubation of new business models.

“The fuel to innovate is created

when individuals who are deeply committed to changing the world for the better and have the right expertise, life experience, passion and ideas, come together and are given free reign and in an environment unconstrained by set cultures and poised to support new possibilities,” says Professor Kosheek Sewchurran, director of the Executive MBA at the GSB.

Candidates on the MPhil can explore inclusive business model innovation across several themes, ranging from healthcare, education, finance, housing, the environment

and sustainability. The solutions generated are however, not only limited to new enterprise creation but could be taken up by government or civil society. “We are not placing limits on anything,” says Sewchurran. “Our goal is radical innovation and sustainable solutions for Africa – we aren’t concerned with what shape or form these take – only which they work.”

Classes are delivered in four modules and for the majority of year students will spend their time in the field on research activities

and the creation and live demonstrations of their inventions. Each student will be expected to develop a creative idea by prototyping and testing the product or service via a pilot and then further developing an inclusive business model.

Walter Baets, director of the GSB, says that the MPhil is part of the GSB’s commitment to being rooted in responsiveness relevant to the needs of the continent.

“We are looking for people who are bright and who are extremely passionate about making a difference,” said Baets. “Not your average student, but someone who has proven themselves and now wants to think big, and learn how to apply these ideas to create radical business models, services and products.

“This will help put that into action, through the ideas and innovations it aims to generate nurture and realize. We are seeking to generate world-class innovations to build Africa’s future.”

has worked as a catalyst in the country’s economic growth which is presently revolving around 4.5% and is expected to reach an average of 5.8% till 2017. Djibouti offers plenty of opportunities in the Port Development and Agri-logistics sectors and is the principal port for imports to and exports from neighboring Ethiopia.

Through an investor’s perspective, Djibouti is a young country which is full of opportunities where investors can invest. The prime sectors are:

1. Real EstateDjibouti, a country with

unemployment rate above 50% in urban areas, has a population of 800,000. The foreign military company provides a major share of the consumer spending. The Chinese, the Somalis, and the Americans are the biggest purchasers of the new villas according to the statistics. Chinese financiers and contractors are slowly coming in numbers as interest from the China Africa Development (CAD) Fund grows predominantly around the prospective of logistics, energy and tourism.

2. TourismDjibouti is a welcoming city for

the visitors. Locals usually speak French, Arabic and/or Somali with some locals economically speaking English. The country is also home to internationally well-known scuba diving places in the north. Unfounded and founded refuge concerns have kept the tourism sector from growing. A

couNTryoftheWeek04Djibouti, legitimately the

Republic of Djibouti, is a country located in Africa

which is bordered by Eritrea in the north, Ethiopia in the west and south, and Somalia in the southeast. The rest of the border is covered by the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden at the east.

It enjoys a miscellaneous economic system in which the economy has private freedom, collective with centralized economic planning and government regulation. The country is a member of the African Union (AU), African Economic Community (AEC) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). Djibouti, though tiniest is the most talented or the most resourceful. Djibouti stands out as an anchorage of firmness and objectivity.

ECONOMIC PROFILEDjibouti's economy is based on

service activities connected with the country's strategic location and status as a free trade zone in the Horn of Africa. Djibouti provides services as both a transit port for

the region and an international transshipment and refueling center.

Imports, exports, and re-exports - primarily of coffee from landlocked neighbor Ethiopia

- represent 70% of port activity at Djibouti's container terminal. Djibouti has few natural resources and little industry. The nation is, therefore, heavily dependent on foreign assistance to help support its balance of payments and to finance development project. Djibouti in 2012 began construction of a third port to secure its position as a critical transshipment hub in the Horn of Africa and the principal conduit for Ethiopia's trade.

Djibouti also received funding in late 2012 for a desalination plant to begin address the severe freshwater shortage affecting Djibouti City, and particularly its poorest residents. It is a major port for NE Africa for global transshipment and refilling center. The main exports are hides and skins, cattle, and coffee. Foods and beverages, transportation equipment, chemicals, and petroleum products are imported in the country. The foremost interchange partners are Somalia, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, India, and China. The economy depends heavily on the service area, which contributes almost four-fifths of the country’s Gross Domestic Product.

OPPORTUNITIES TO INVEST

Due to its geo-strategic location, it has become transport and shipping hub for the provincial neighbors and controls access to the Red Sea and Indian Ocean. FDI

DJIBOUTIheavy boost can be experienced in the tourism sector by investing in moderately priced, quality hotels as well as other touristic facilities (i.e., tour guides, moderately priced restaurants, etc.).

3. Logistics and WarehousingThe Djiboutian ports are

vigorous to Ethiopia and is now growing its importance to South Sudan. Warehousing and transports are overpriced that it is better to dump them out after six months than to store them. During the winter season (right after the Ethiopian rainy season), the port is further jammed due to a major crash in imports and exports. The port blockage will only be calmed through development of the other ports, more reasonable warehousing, and, in the longer term, better transnational interaction over taxes and duties among other things.

4. Education

Djibouti, a place with very small population has more than 60% of its population working. The Université de Djibouti, inaugurated in 2006, is the only college-level education benefactor in Djibouti. Today also those who have enough money it still leave the country for education. In such a young economy, there is a countless need for practical abilities resulting from management institutes and vocational preparatory schools.

The schools can help develop local skills, especially entrepreneurial related skills, essential to enlarge an economy reliant on foreign backing and imports.

5. Livestock Livestock remains the main

commotion in the rural world which is done in two ways: nomadic and sedentary. About 90% of upbringing is nomadic, the rest is sedentary. Breeding also signifies a sturdy element of financial addition as soon as it goes beyond the stage of modest feeding. Djibouti owns an important livestock and due to its strategic position, its assets plays a major role of regional trade in cattle. The possibility of the sector of

breeding is high and full of animal resources, but it demands modern technology and foreign investment in revolution activities like modern glacier massacre houses for export.

7. Fishing With 372 km of shoreline, the

area of mainland ledge Djibouti broken by fisheries is about 2,276 km2. Despite the potential fish with sustainable levels of misuse are estimated at 9,300 tons for demersal fish and large aquatic fish and 22,000 tons for small aquatic domestic production varies between 1,600 and 1,900 tons of yearly moorings. Currently, the fisheries sector provides permanent engagement of 3 600 persons.

Vodacom launches SA-targeted tablet

Royal Philips (AEX: PHIA, NYSE: PHG), announced a partnership with South Africa based not-for-profit organization, PET (Power Free Education Technology), to further develop, test and commercialize a Wind-up Doppler Ultrasound Fetal Heart Rate Monitor (in short: Wind-up Fetal Doppler), a unique power-independent clinical innovation aimed at addressing the high rates of preventable infant mortality across Africa.

The Wind-up Fetal Doppler is a device to easily and accurately count the fetal heart rate while the mother is in labor. The Wind-up Fetal Doppler will be commercialized by the Philips Africa Innovation Hub, which is the center for developing innovations “in Africa-for Africa” in the areas of healthcare, lighting and healthy living. The Philips Africa Innovation Hub has unveiled the first Philips prototype of the Wind-up Fetal Doppler, underpinning their commitment to the partnership. The prototype is subject to clinical testing and regulatory approval, before release for general usage.

Current methods to measure the fetal heart rate are either too expensive, too inaccurate or rely on replaceable batteries or electricity to run; the Wind-up Fetal Doppler is especially designed to empower midwives and delivering nurses to give better care.

“It is very hard to do an accurate measurement with a Pinard-stethoscope, because you need to be able to hear the fetal heart well and count the rate correctly. It is often also uncomfortable for the mother. A Doppler ultrasound fetal heart rate monitor is a good solution, but the current monitors on the market require mains or battery power, and are not robust enough.” states, Anneke Jagau, a midwife working for PET.

PET has been working on the development of the hand cranked,

A2008 research by NDHS shows that Nigeria has the highest prevalence of VVF in the world with approximately 400,000–800,000 women living with the condition and about 20,000 new cases occurring annually. Ninety percent of the cases go untreated.

Mrs.Ayona Trimnell, Head, Corporate Communications,Diamond Bank PLC, said that the Bank places high

Wind-up Fetal Doppler for many years, and they verified the positive impact of the device in tests in Uganda, where 60% more cases of abnormal fetal heart rate were detected in labor, compared to the standard Pinard-stethoscope.

Maarten van Herpen, Head of the Philips Africa Innovation Hub, states:

“Philips is open to collaborations with key stakeholders, including governments and NGOs, to create impactful innovations that matter to people and address the key challenges that confront society. PET has invested many years in the development of this important idea. I am honored that PET has chosen Philips as the company that is best positioned to commercialize it and make it available across Africa”.

“We are very excited about the collaboration with Philips”, said Dr Francois Bonnici, Director of PET and Director of the Bertha Centre for Social Innovation at the University of Cape Town, “We chose to work with Philips because of a strong alignment on the mission to improve people’s lives with meaningful innovation. As a market leader in healthcare, Philips will be able to make our innovation available and affordable for frontline healthcare workers across the African continent.”

Philips remains consistently committed to reducing child mortality and improving maternal health, linked to the current UN Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5 (MDGs); the company has also made a pledge to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon’s initiative Every Woman Every Child and committed to improving the lives of 100 million women and children by 2025 targeting sub-Saharan Africa where high maternal and infant mortality can be addressed through early diagnosis and preventative care.

Vodacom has launched a low-cost tablet that has been designed specifically for the South African market, reported City Press. This was in a bid to drive greater data usage as voice revenues continue to slide.

“Just over a year ago we stepped back and looked at the devices currently in the market in South Africa and realised there was a massive gap. The smartphones and tablets on offer were either prohibitively expensive or cheap and badly specced,” said Vodacom’s commercial officer Phil Patel.

“We sketched out what we thought the ideal specifications were for South Africa, and using the purchasing power of Vodafone’s global device team, we were able to have the device manufactured at a price point that works out at R2 per day.”

Vodacom said in a statement that the low-cost tablet called the Vodacom Smart Tab 3G will be available on prepaid for R999. The device will be on sale from Wednesday.

In August, Vodacom released its first low-cost smartphone Kicka, and according to Patel over 250,000 units have been sold in a month and a half. He estimated that the data usage per unit was on average 100-150MB. Rival MTN also has its

The initiative will sensitise women on how to internalise good health habits as well as make better informed choices regarding their health and those of their partners.

It will also provide basic healthcare services to women in rural areas and empower them economically in the areas of agriculture and trading. This unique approach will ensure that the affected women are able to make better choices concerning their wellbeing and also have the economic power to improve their living standards.”

just one leg of our three-part strategy to connect South Africa. The first leg is the network itself – we’re investing R9bn across South Africa this year to expand both the reach and quality of our coverage,” Patel said.

He said the focus was on township, rural and greater suburban areas and the network was being built to support video and multimedia.

Patel acknowledged that income in rural and township areas especially may be limited and he said the approach to pricing of data will not be the same as with the cities.

The tale of Africa’s growth is ever-changing. Six of the world’s fastest growing economies are in Africa! It is alike essential that the triumphs of

any country are amalgamated and improved upon. In the last 15 years Mozambique’s economy has

ripened gradually at an outstanding 7.7 percent per year, compelled by the service sector, light industry, and agriculture. This development beat of the economy is anticipated to be preserved or even surge with an enormous inflow of investment, by now identified, on the order of $15 billion–$20 billion.

Mozambique has, no doubt, enormous potential fortified by its gigantic natural resources. Mozambique’s geographical location as a natural entry and exit point for the flow of goods to its landlocked neighbours will continue to back up the country’s transport channels.

The central transport infrastructure spreads from the Port of Beira to Zimbabwe, and slightly to Malawi and Zambia. The southern transport network links the Port of Maputo to the northeastern part of South Africa, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe.

These two “transport clusters” are multimodal, mostly functional, and by now enticing attention among private investors. Additionally, Mozambique is well gifted with hydropower potential; it is before now a net exporter of electricity, and can anticipated to play an acute character in the power trade of the region through the progress of its hydropower latent in the near future.

Transport infrastructure is advanced transversely, west–east, joining mining and agricultural clusters inside Mozambique and in neighboring countries to exit ports. The connectivity among population concentrations, as well as the eminence of roads, along these transport corridors is relatively good. The railway system is functional and has been fascinating private interest in recent years. The road network has seen an overhaul in investment and rehabilitation, and a second-generation road fund has been set in place.

Nevertheless Mozambique still confronts critical infrastructure challenges. Perchance the unambiguous lies in the transport sector. While some of the transport corridors are mostly functional in furnishing regional connectivity and linking mining and key production centers to ports, Mozambique’s connectivity among urban and economic clusters is relatively inadequate, lacking linkages that connect parallel corridors to each other.

With the exception of the lately settled north-south National Road N1, the country has no (or has very limited) connection among the several west-east corridors, and evolving full connectivity would necessitate continued and massive investments over decades, with the expected involvement of the private sector and nontraditional financiers.

POURING INVESTMENT

Mozambique has the coal capacity, but it needs the infrastructure to unlock this capacity. The Sena railway's capabilities are limited. The ports have shallow bays and are only suitable for handy-size vessels.

Mr. ViCTor GoMES President of Mozambique Ports and Railways

Mr. riCArDo SAADChief Executive of Vale's Mozambique operations

US $2.2 billion is to be injected by the public enterprise Ports and Railways of Mozambique (CFM) in partnership with the private concessionaire of the Port of Maputo (MPDC), on the project Maputo to update the logistics of the Maputo Corridor. Both the companies are looking forward to meet the demand for the exchange of goods between Mozambique, Swaziland and South Africa, hoping for the revolution of Maputo Corridor in 2015. Financial inoculation will be used to prepare the rail and port infrastructure in Maputo for "the big challenge of focusing on cargo transportation via railway" as the present infrastructure of Maputo Corridor supports trucks than trains.

Chairman Victor Gomes, CFM Board of Directors (PCA), when asked about the advantages of the flow of goods via railway articulated that the new system will bring "more comfort, safety and speed" in trade within the neighboring countries. The second reason for investment in the multi-billion-dollar project between CFM and MPDC was to provide a platform for regional logistic trade by railway companies of Mozambique, Swaziland and South Africa, the JOC.

The JOC, which was inaugurated in last September, is destined to enhance the use of railways in trade in the region. Jacob Zuma, South African President announced an investment of 300 billion rands in state-owned worker Transnet Freight Rail which will support the Maputo Corridor logistics project.

In the last 10 years, Mozambique's economy has developed progressively at a striking rate of 7.7 percent per year, motivated by the service sector, light industry, and agriculture. This stride is predicted to endure or even upsurge with the enormous incursion of already-planned investment on the order of $15-20 billion. Mozambique's infrastructure is well advanced in some sectors, with its east-west transport infrastructure, power grid, and water and sanitation networks. But the nation still faces acute challenges in these and other areas, including developing north-south transport connections, properly managing the water system, and expanding hydroelectric generation to meet potential. Mozambique spent about $664 million per year on infrastructure during the late 2000s, with as much as $204 million lost annually to inefficiencies. Associating spending needs with existing spending and potential efficiency gains leaves an annual funding gap of $822 million per year. The country could reach infrastructure targets in 20 years through a amalgamation of augmented finance, enhanced efficiency, and cost-reducing innovations.

US $2.2 billion to be injected on Maputo Corridor Logistics Project

The main challenge now is to have a very good railway system and a very good ports and logistics system which can give customers cost-effective value, In Maputo, we have Maputo Port Development Company operating in partnership with CFM, in Beira we have Cornelder, and in Cabo Delgado we have the port of Pemba.

The railway system is functional and has been fascinating private interest in recent years.

Infrastructure Matters to MozambiqueAs a final point, upholding the quickly growing

road and rail network is a huge hurdle to overcome, institutionally and financially, as the size of the network seems to outshine the capacity of the country to furnish funds for its upkeep.

As for water resources, the country’s massive prospective has been only moderately tapped. The key task is how to handgrip the wide range of differing water uses within an environmentally cognizant framework. The existing irrigation area can be prolonged expressively with good economic returns.

Turning to Mozambique’s public infrastructure needs, it will necessitate continued spending of more than $1.7 billion per year within the next decade, or the equivalent of 26 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP); this is among the highest in the southern region. This is grounded on accomplishing an explanatory set of infrastructure targets, and cogitates only public infrastructure needs without taking into account the private infrastructure needs of the concessions allied with coal, iron ore, and aluminum. Close to 70 percent of these needs are imitative from capital needs, and the highest annual price tag is associated with the power sector.

When all bases of spending are taken into account, Mozambique spent an annual average of about $664 million on infrastructure during the late 2000s. That

is equal to about 10 percent of its GDP, a relatively high share likened with other African countries, though still only about half of the share that the estimated needs would require. Around two-thirds of total infrastructure expenditure is investment.

Transport engrosses the largest share of that spending

and water, information and communication technology (ICT) and power signifies similar level of spending. The public sector (through taxes and user fees) and official development assistance are the largest source of investment, followed distantly by private funds.

A total of $204 million is lost yearly to inadequacies, mainly because of the misalignment between tariffs and costs in the power and water-supply sectors. Only by chasing an investment agenda that takes into account regional dynamics and positions Mozambique as a key power exporter is there potential for reducing marginal costs of power below the existing tariff and therefore eliminating this inefficiency.

Evaluating spending needs against prevailing spending and potential efficiency gains leaves an annual funding gap of $822 million per year, or 12.5 percent of GDP, most of it associated with water and sanitation and power. Under business-as-usual assumptions for spending and efficiency, it would take over 50 years for the country to touch these goals. Yet with a combination of increased financing, improved efficiency, and cost-reducing innovations, it should be conceivable to cut that time to 20 years.

AK Songstress Nominated Three Times for MTN 4Syte Music Video Awards

Dookoom Burns Down the Farm in Controversial New Music Video

With a love for music and passion to succeed, shines one of todays brightest and gifted male vocal soloist, Producer, Writer... QWECI.

As the first artist to release R&B / SOUL album in Ghana, Qweci is set to release a new single; Anansi Sem.

From a posted artwork on his instagram timeline, @officialqweci, Anansi Sem will obviously talk about the Spider stories of love, gossips and lies.

Been away for more than a decade, the soul singer renaissance springs from both musicians and fans longing for more after the release of his comeback tune, Mipe Wo Saa.

To mark the 3rd anniversary of the annual Ghana DJ Awards, half Ghanaian and half Ivorian afro pop singer, Miray has performed a historic official awards theme song featuring top Ghanaian hypeman Merqury Quaye which was released yesterday on the awards official Facebook page.

The afro-pop music titled ‘Rhythm Nation’ will be heard throughout campaigns and ultimately open the mega Ghana DJ Awards show which will be held at the Accra International Conference Centre during the first quarter of 2015.

This is the first of time an awards program in Ghana has a tune recorded specially for it.

With technical input from 3fs studios, Miray said she tried to come up with something beautiful, thematic and simple but also edgy and festive for the occasion.

Signed on to Swagg Luna gh record label, Miray, real name, Miray Mansan Gomont first had a stint with the entertainment world when she participated in a dancing competition at Ivory coast when she was nine years. Then she participated to a

Recently, minority rights group AfriForum laid a complaint of hate speech against Dookoom with the South African Human Rights Commission, but Isaac says, “We’re not inciting violence. No one gets hurt in the video. But

Larney Jou Poes is an impressive debut from director-to-watch Dane Dodds. “When Isaac sent me a few tracks to choose from, Larney Jou Poes made me feel the most uncomfortable,” says Dane. “As the son of a farmer, I know those feelings are there, so I just wanted to make people talk about them, because they’re often swept under the carpet.”

Born in 1994, Dane’s been making videos since he was five. He’s spent his first year out of high school on a film residency with award-

winning Cape Town production company Fly on the Wall, while also assisting leading street artists Faith47 and DALeast.

Dane’s been shadowing Fly on the Wall over school holidays since he was 15, when he discovered director Bryan little and photographer Filipa Domingues (Suicide Monkey) in South African pop culture magazine One Small Seed. “They’ve been heroes to me,” he says. “The work they do feels South African; it’s not someone trying to be European. That’s the kind of work I want to do.”

Larney Jou Poes, Dookoom’s incendiary new music video, premiered on City Press and on vice’s music channel Noisey recently. Eturbo News

Bralirwa has backtracked on its earlier decision not to sponsor the 2014/15 national football league after holding talks with Sports Minister Joseph Habineza, Times Sport can exclusively reveal.

The Brewery Company released a statement saying that talks with the Rwanda Football Federation (Ferwafa) had not made any progress and that they had decided not to renew sponsorship of the league.

“On September 17th, 2014 Bralirwa sent Ferwafa a letter of intent in which we provided our proposed renewal terms for sponsorship

of 2014/15 season. After much discussion we have not been able to reach an agreement with Ferwafa on the terms of renewal.”

However Sports Minister Joseph Habineza met with officials of Bralirwa and Ferwafa and told this paper that a deal is expected to be signed next week.

“I have met with Bralirwa officials

Habineza intervention secures league sponsorship

Everton hasn’t seen the best of Atsu yet – Martinez

and we had productive talks,” Minister Habineza said in a phone interview adding that a deal will be signed very soon. It is not clear what exactly the two bodies failed to agree on. Bralirwa’s Marketing Manager Martine Gatabazi could not be reached for comment by press time. Bralirwa is the only company that has sponsored the league for the last few years. They gave Ferwafa Rwf170m last year.

Clubs like Rayon Sport have criticised Ferwafa for not being able to negotiate a bigger sponsorship deal.

Aimé Emmanuel Niyonsabye, Rayon Sport’s Secretary General says

the money given to the club is little and only caters for transport.

“Last year we were given Rwf 200, 000 for every match day which is very small and has little effect. Our Club uses over Rwf2m. I’m afraid that this is

what we shall get again this season,” Niyonsabye says adding that Ferwafa needs to call for a General meeting with all stakeholders so that they discuss how to attract better sponsorship packages. The blues signed a 3 year deal with Skol last season where they received 50.000 Euros and will get a 20% increase this season and the next.

Having spent last season on loan at Vitesse in the Eredivisie, Martinez has urged fans to be patient with Atsu as he becomes accustomed to life the Premier League.

“We need to give him a little bit of time to adapt to the physicality of the Premier League just like any player but especially a winger,” Martinez told theLiverpool Echo.

“In other leagues referees allow less contact and they are a bit more protected.

“It’s just making sure I can give him the right introduction to his role. With the minutes he’s had so far in the Europa League and other games he’s done well.

“I expect him to be himself in the second half of the season and he can be a very important player for us.

“To be left-footed in that wing position with a real penetrative edge like he has can give you a big advantage.”

Thanks for willing to grant Indo Africa Times an interview. What is 2nd Image International and what do you do?

Thanks for coming. 2nd Image International is a beauty and fashion clinic. We are into beauty therapy i.e. skin care. We take care of the skin that is; we are into the total grooming of our clients. We are also into the production of skin care product which we do through the Cocoa Research Institute in Ghana and we are also in partnership with South Africa and Benin in the production of our body creams. Apart from that, 2nd Image is into fashion designing and sowing. We are also into the training of people who are interested in getting some skills for themselves.

Who is Nikki Boa-Amponsem and how did you become the CEO of 2nd Image International?

Nikki is a Ghanaian, born and bred in Ghana. I started my education here in Ghana and continued to the United Kingdom where I studied biochemistry and majored in Health and Beauty Therapy. With my training I decided to start my own business and that is how 2nd Image International was born. I started in London where I worked for two years and moved to Ghana and for more than ten years now, we have been

working hard to impact our generation.

As a CEO, what has been your motivation and how did you manage to get this far in the fashion industry here in Ghana?

My motivation is to see to it that the people of my country are well groomed in their appearance, well clothed and have a healthy skin care. My other motivation is to give skills training to the young people in the fashion industry. I’m into this with my two sons, Thomas who is handling the ICT department and Clint who is in charge of administration.

How do you see the beauty and fashion industry in Ghana?

In Ghana, the fashion industry is limited to just the cutting and sowing of cloths but the fashion industry is more than that and 2nd Image has come to change that perception. We have ventured further into designing and we are not just doing it but we are also training people in designing as well. Also I have seen that Ghanaian women are only into make-ups and not body therapy so we have taken our work into the next level of body therapy to give Ghanaian women a proper body care.

How are people patronizing your training and what are the caliber of

people attending the school?

The response is overwhelming. We have students coming from the lower level of education thus the Junior High School certificate holders through to the Higher Diploma holders and University graduate. Our primary aim is to give them skills which can help them get themselves established after graduation. That will in fact reduce the graduate unemployment rate in Ghana. Skill training is lacking in Ghana and our universities produce graduates who cannot get jobs and cannot also create one for themselves. We are not interested in that sort of education. So far, we have about 10% of JHS holders, 80% Senior High and Higher National Diploma (HND) holders and about 10% of university graduate enrolling in our school every year.

What are your achievements and challenges in your vocation?

Our greatest achievement is the number of people we are able to enroll every year into our vocational school and the number of our students who graduate with the needed skills. The challenges are numerous but we are determined to surmount them all. There’s some amount of competition out there but we are embolden by them because we are focused and we working

had to reach our goal.

How are you able to work with your own sons?

Well, it’s easy. We have cultivated respect for one another throughout their young and adult life and so working together is not difficult at all.

What is the future for 2nd Image International?

We are looking forward to building a university that will not only give skills to our people but also administrative and entrepreneurship skill which will help our graduate to not only start their own businesses but also how to manage them.

The Ghanaian fashion industry has seen some improvement since Nikki Boa-Amponsem, the CEO of 2nd Image International came to the fashion scene. Indo Africa Times Ghana correspondent Francis L. Sackitey visited the CEO at her Adabraka school and clinic in Accra Ghana and has come out with this interview.
