1) What types of magazine and target audiences has IPC been associated with over the years?

Target audiences that have been associated with IPC over the years include:

Peoples with specific Hobbies/interests such as gardening, football, rugby, golf, yachting, cycling, and bird watching (wildlife).

Women who are getting married Housewives-women aged 23+ Young women-(e.g. ‘chat’) aged17-25 Lads magazines: men aged 17-25 Woman’s own-young independent women whose interests may include

shopping, fashion, beauty and career People who like camping- e.g. Motor Caravan Magazine Elderly people- Gardening magazines, the railway magazine

It is clear to see that IPC have associated with a wide range of target audiences over the years. This may be why it is a popular and successful publisher.

2) Why might IPC be an appropriate publisher for a new music magazine? What sorts of genres of music/types of magazines might they be likely to publish? Why might alternative publishers like Bauer be appropriate?

IPC could be an appropriate publisher for a new music magazine because it covers a wide range of target audiences so would therefore be able to identify interests in music effectively.

They would be likely to publish genres such as pop, indie/rock, hip-hop, RnB and classical.

Alternative publishers like Bauer may be appropriate because they specialise in particular magazines rather than IPC who are more general.
