• Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) was founded to provide quality legal counsel to children in America who are immigrants and refugees. By creating a movement among law firms, universities, volunteers, nongovernmental organizations, and corporations, KIND hopes to protect those children who enter into the American immigration system alone by ensuring they are represented if they appear in immigration court. Additionally, the organization serves as an advocate for U.S. policy and law changes that will improve the treatment of these children.

• Although the organization works to protect immigrant children, KIND recognizes that not all unaccompanied children are able to stay in America. For these children, the organization provides legal counsel to help ensure that the youths return to their country in the best way possible. Currently, KIND has seven offices across America that work to find pro bono attorneys for immigrant children.
