What kind of media institution might distribute the magazine, ‘Addiction’? Why?

Bauer Media is a division of the Bauer Media Group, Europe’s largest privately owned publishing Group. The Group is a worldwide media empire offering over 300 magazines in 15 countries, as well as online, TV and radio stations.

The genre of ‘Addiction’ is an indie/rock genre, therefore it would be suitable for it to be distributed by an institution which also produces this genre of magazine. Bauer Media produces the magazine ‘Q’, which is a very successful magazine with a similar style and genre to my magazine. This makes Bauer Media a suitable company to produce my magazine. However due to the company already producing similar products to mine, this may cause my magazine to struggle to challenge the other magazines. This is because the audience may want to keep to the magazines which are satisfying them already. On the other hand, maybe if I chose a company that didn’t have experience in my style/genre of magazine, then my magazine may not be produced, distributed very well, together with having a lack of development.

IPC Media produces over 60 iconic media brands, with print alone reaching almost two thirds of UK women and 42% of UK men, which is almost 26 million UK adults. Whilst their websites collectively reach over 20 million users every month.

This institution would be suitable for the distribution of my music magazine because it has a lot of experience in producing brands with similarities to my magazine. One of these is the world famous ‘NME’. ‘NME’ has become a multi-media platform. This includes the magazine, nme.com, NMETV, NME Radio and the its live awards and events. Each week NME reaches over one million music fans. NME is the longest published and most respected music weekly company in the world at the moment. Each and every week it gives its audience fantastic coverage of only the best contemporary music, latest releases, live reviews, award winning features, a guide to the best new and upcoming bands and it gives an insight to its unbelievable 58 years of fame. However, because the success of NME is so great, this may knock down my magazine, making it less likely to catch the eye of the audience.
