What is your gender?

Male Female

8 12

This question was asked to see if viewpoints and preferences change for each gender. This will be helpful because I will know what attracts both genders, and how I can apply my magazine to appeal to them. These results show that the amount of females asked to males was slightly higher, but not too much so that the results are not accurate.

If only one gender was asked, the magazine would result in it being too feminine or too masculine which would result in less people wanting to purchase it as it would not visually attract them .

This question was asked to make sure the public who filled in my questionnaire fit within my target audience. Because they did, it will result in my magazine being appropriate to the main audience that will be purchasing my magazine; teenagers and young adults. The results show that the main age group asked was 16 – 20 which is extremely good as this is my primary target age.

If the wrong age group was asked (for example, 30 years plus) it could result in my magazine being unsuccessful, as the people I want to attract will not have had an input.

Do you read magazines?

YesNoSometimes

This question was asked to know if the public answering my questionnaire had a respectable knowledge of magazines or not. This would help my research because if they do read magazines, they will automatically know what entices them into buying it which will help me know what to put into mine. The results show that the majority of the public asked read magazines, even if it is not a lot. This is helpful because they will all have a good knowledge of what attracts them.

If this question was not asked I would not have known how to attract regular magazine readers into buying my magazine, as well as enticing people who don’t, as I would not have know what they would have wanted to see. This would have resulted in me not knowing how to attract them and attend to their requests.

This question was asked so I had a reasonable idea of what content to put into my magazine which would automatically attract the target audience into buying my magazine. The results showed that the most important thing that attracts people into purchasing a music magazine is the celebrities asked. This is useful because I will know a way to attract both genders is to have feature articles involving alternative rock artists.

The results showed that the pictures in a magazine also play a big part into the attraction of a magazine, which proves I need photos in mine to make it busy and visually pleasing. Someone did also chose other and said that ‘nothing’ attracted them into buying a magazine, which was not very useful.

These results were useful as I thought the biggest attraction to a magazine would have been the free merchandise, however I now realise it’s the content of the magazine and who would be featuring in it.

This question was asked so I had a good knowledge of what people of the target audience, associated with alternative rock. This is important because my idea of alternative rock colours could be completely different to everyone else.

The results show that most people who answered the questionnaire voted red and to be the main colours that represent alternative rock. The results showed that purple was chosen a lot, which shocked me as I would not have associated it with the alternative rock genre.

This is one of the reasons why the research of this question was important as I would not have known to use hints of purple in my magazine. However, I now know to definitely use red and black as my main colour scheme to connote the idea of the alternative rock genre and attract my target audience.

This question was asked to know if the public answering my questionnaire had a respectable knowledge of magazines or not. This would help my research because if they do buy magazines, they will automatically know what entices them into buying and reading them which will help me know what to put into mine. The results show that the majority of the public do not read magazines regularly, but still read them. This is helpful because they will all still have a good knowledge of what attracts them. Someone also answered saying they never read magazines which means I need to take their answers into account and learn how to attract them into buying my magazine.

If this question was not asked I would not have known how to attract regular magazine readers into buying my magazine, as well as enticing people who don’t, as I would not have know what they would have wanted to see. This would have resulted in me not knowing how to attract them and attend to their requests.

Do you like magazines that contain free merchandise?

Yes No

This question was asked to know if the public answering my questionnaire would be interested in a magazine that contains free merchandise. The results show that the majority of people do enjoy magazines that have free merchandise, so this is something that should be included in my magazine.

This is important as I now know free merchandise does entice people into buying magazines as it as though they are getting more for their money. Therefore, free merchandise is something that should be added in my magazine.

This question was asked to know what magazines, of the alternative rock genre, most people read so I can look at them magazines and pick key features of that magazine I like and use it for stimulation of what to put in my magazine. This is also important as I can look at the magazine to discover key features I need to include in my magazine, that attracts their readers.

My results show that kerrang is the most read magazine out of all the other magazines to chose from. This question is important to be asked as I now know what magazines I should look for, for inspiration when choosing what to include in mine. This could be from the colour scheme, to the layout, to the celebrities interviewed in the magazine.

This question was asked to know if the public answering my questionnaire had a respectable knowledge of alternative rock artists or not. The results show that most of the people who answered my questionnaire know many of these artists/bands. The results also show that ‘All Time Low’ had the highest vote which ensures me that I need to mention them in my magazine.

This was an important question to ask as I now have an idea of what artists/bands to include in my magazine that will entice my target audience into buying my magazine. This also connects with my question ‘what attracts you to a magazine’ as the celebrities interviewed play a big attraction into people buying my magazine. Therefor, the celebrities used is very important.

This question was asked to know what to include in my magazine, content wise, that will attract my target audience into wanting to read my magazine. This question is important I now know what articles to include in my magazine that will excite my readers into buying the magazine.

The results show that all these articles are important, but tour dates are the most essential as readers will know when they can see their favourite artists/bands live. The next most favourable articles are the artist interviews as readers feel like they are connected somehow to rock stars, as well as helping the magazine create this idea of synthetic personalisation.

Therefor, in my magazine the most important articles to include is tour dates and artist interviews, as this will entice my readers.
