Page 2: 25 Years Of The Americans With Disabilities Act

25 years ago, President George H.W. Bush signed the Americans With Disabilities Act.

Page 3: 25 Years Of The Americans With Disabilities Act

The act requires public places to have access to the disabled. It also requires ways for the disabled to have the opportunities to be

successful in their lives.

Page 4: 25 Years Of The Americans With Disabilities Act

Yes, public places have gotten better for the disabled. BUT, many of these same disabled

people often struggle with having ways to have a successful life.

Page 5: 25 Years Of The Americans With Disabilities Act

For example, people with disabilities often deal with people who want to bully them.

Page 6: 25 Years Of The Americans With Disabilities Act

And many people with disabilities often struggle with finding employment opportunities.

Page 7: 25 Years Of The Americans With Disabilities Act

Yes, some with disabilities have seen their lives approve, for example the Paralympics rock!

Page 8: 25 Years Of The Americans With Disabilities Act

But, we often face stereotypes every time a major event, like a mass shooting happens.

Page 9: 25 Years Of The Americans With Disabilities Act

And did mention the cyber bullying as well?

Page 10: 25 Years Of The Americans With Disabilities Act

People in America must REALIZE that those with disabilities are wonderful people!

Page 11: 25 Years Of The Americans With Disabilities Act

Sadly, here in Alabama. The state has the MOST people with disabilities than any other state in America. Alabama leads the nation in disability rates, as nearly a third of Alabama residents require some assistance to negotiate basic daily life.  The disability rate in Alabama

is 31.5 percent.

Page 12: 25 Years Of The Americans With Disabilities Act

People with disabilities are NOT lazy people!

Page 13: 25 Years Of The Americans With Disabilities Act

People with Asperger’s are not weird people!

Page 14: 25 Years Of The Americans With Disabilities Act

We NEED people to quit bullying us!

Page 15: 25 Years Of The Americans With Disabilities Act

We can be successful, but we need to be given a chance!

Page 16: 25 Years Of The Americans With Disabilities Act

Because many with disabilities are not given a chance, we often have to rely on Social Security

Disability.

Page 17: 25 Years Of The Americans With Disabilities Act

I mean, thankfully there is disability, but America needs to do a better job with those with

disabilities.

Page 18: 25 Years Of The Americans With Disabilities Act

In 2010, less than 1 in 5 people with disabilities held a job. I mean, this is not how it’s supposed to work in

America!

Page 19: 25 Years Of The Americans With Disabilities Act

People with disabilities have to often deal with bullying, unemployment, discrimination, and

more. I mean, this has to stop for good!

Page 20: 25 Years Of The Americans With Disabilities Act

It’s time for people to treat those with disabilities with dignity and respect!

Page 21: 25 Years Of The Americans With Disabilities Act

In Closing

The Americans With Disabilities Act has done wonders, but we have a long way to go before

those with disabilities have the opportunity to live the dream!

About Nathan YoungHello geeks and nerds; let me introduce you to what I am. Nathan Young does a lot of wonderful things in the media world, from writing, photography, videography, and social media. My current home is the blog and website Geek Alabama. There I do everything from geeky/nerdy talk, event coverage, reviews, cooking, community coverage, promotions, and anything else to give any geek and/or nerd an organism.

If it’s anything any geek and/or nerd would care about, I am usually talking about it. From conventions, gaming, crowdsourcing, tech, movies, TV shows, comics, books, food, videos, apps, and more. If you are looking for articles anyone would love reading, you have come to the right place! If you are looking for someone who can cover events with pictures and videos, cover products and shows, speak at events, cover your products, or attend your conventions, consider me! Every geek and/or nerd from trekkies, whovians, and even bronies, already has!

The most interesting fact about me, I draw roads! #Aspie proud! #ASD
