MethodologyBlackBerry conducted a poll of over 8,000 Android smartphone users between 35-54 years old in the U.S. to uncover the mobile security and privacy implications Android users take into consideration to protect their valuable information and data. The poll was conducted online through Google Consumer Surveys from April 11-13, 2016.

Nearly 90% of Android users rely on one device for work and personal use.

They primarily use their device for entertainment, followed by calls, social media and emails.

Android users care about security.

More than two-thirds (69%) are somewhat or very concerned about the security of data on their mobile device, but half of respondents believe their smartphone is only somewhat secure.

More than half (51%) state third parties using their personal data is their

biggest security concern, and place responsibility of securing their device

on multiple parties..

The majority of Android users use a PIN (45 percent) or password (41 percent) to protect their device.

Android users are most fearful of third parties mining their data.

Yet 1 in 6 don’t know about Android security updates. Not regularly updating can leave your device vulnerable to malware attacks and more.

The top security concerns among Android smartphone users?

More than half (51%) state third parties using their personal data, followed by one-third (34%) listing their phone being stolen or lost.

Many Android users are not concerned about deeper-level security threats such as someone listening to phone calls or their email or texts being hacked.Less than 5% were concerned about someone listening to their phone calls or their texts being hacked and read.
