The mission of The Union Studios
and Gallery is to create a
professional atmosphere for
emerging artists to
create, collaborate, and showcase
their work. Private studio space is
provided for resident artists to work
on their art. Common areas and
gallery spaces are available for
resident and non resident artists to
collaborate, display, be
inspired, work, play, and educate.
Who Are We?
The Union is a group of resident artists working and collaborating with each other and the local art community to help make Jacksonville a hub of cultural significance on a national scale.
the still photographer for the Sundance Channel’s award-winning independent film, “Swimming” and the photo editor of Yikes! Magazine. She traveled the world as a staff photojournalist on assignments for newspapers in Kentucky, New Mexico, Alabama, and Texas for twelve years developing a unique vision that merges fine art principles with reality based documentary photography. Her work has been published by several major news organizations such as The Associated Press, The New York Times, U.S. News, AOL, People, Photo District News, Sports Illustrated and many others. Her images have appeared in newspapers, magazines, websites and textbooks on a global scale. She has received numerous awards for her work, some of which include: The Associated Press Managing Editors Awards, The New York Times Chairman’s Award, Editor and Publisher Picture of the Year as well as many other state specific press awards. In August of 2012, Tammy left her photojournalism job for Hearst newspapers in Texas and returned to her roots to work as a freelance art photographer. Tammy hopes to further explore the dichotomy between realism and surrealism to create “dream scenes” in her images.
Tammy McKinley was raised in Lexington, Kentucky. In 1987, she attended the University of Kentucky as an English major before transferring to the Savannah College of Art and Design for photography. From 1992-2000, she freelanced and exhibited in galleries in Savannah, Georgia; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Los Angeles, California; and Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She was

Van Gogh, Paul Cezzane as well as the more modern works of Pablo Picasso and Jackson Pollack. Dan has been lucky enough to have studied locally in Jacksonville, FL under great drawing and painting instructors such as Ann Banas, Mark Creegan, and Dustin Harewood who have each been a major part of teaching him new ways of exploring his creativity and pushing him to do some of his best work. Dan has been a working artist selling his paintings both locally and nationally for the last 3 years. He displays his work at most local arts festivals and works with groups of local artists in “pop-up” galleries around the Jacksonville area. Dan's artistic philosophy aligns with his need to be free creatively to explore the human condition and raw emotions inside us all. He finds it important to expose the darker corners of humanity as well as the more beautiful aspects to gain a more complete and well rounded vision of the reality we all live in as well as create inside ourselves. Dan's work mainly takes shape in oil on canvas paintings in a surreal Low-Brow art form indicative of his childhood heavily medicated with 70's and 80's pop culture, comic art, and Punk ethos. However he also has found creative purchase recently in expressing emotionally through abstract work. Going forward Dan is looking to continue his exploration of new ways to express himself through many mediums and venues. He hopes to engage the public in an open dialogue about the world we all live in and perhaps start important internal dialogues with viewers of his art that may shift their life long paradigms.

Frida Kahlo, Janet and Anne Grahame Johnstone, and Yuko Shimizu.Desiree is pursuing an education in art therapy. She has grown in her ability and talent under the direction of Ann Banas, Dustin Harewood, and Mark Creegan. She feels lucky to be challenged by her professors to do her best. Desiree's artistic philosophy is that creativity should be a lifestyle. She sees the world around her in a creative artistic way. She believes the visual arts is a natural expression of the creative way of life. She works mainly in charcoal and soft pastels, and sometimes oil pastels. She occasionally works with found objects creating junk art, and she likes to make work using shadow boxes. Desiree is looking forward to continue making meaningful work and creating art in series. She hopes to engage the viewer with visual commentary on the world around her in topics important to her.
Desire Davis has been an artist for most of her life. Her work is inspired from an eclectic mix of music, books, social awareness, feminism, parenthood and culture. She is influenced by the work of her colleagues, friends and established artists. She admires well known artists such as Gustav Klimt, Salvador Dali,
