Artist choiceIn this project, I selected a two-person band which was founded in 2004 -

They became popular in the area of Psychedelic Rock. Because MGMT is an indie band, the style is uncommon but the new-age band provides many new ideas and themes in their songs.

I’m going to create a compilation album for them. It contains all the popular songs and some underrated songs. The music video will also adapt an underrated song from them.

Mystery Disease by MGMTis a song released in MGMT(album), 2013 which is their third album.

The reason I selected this song is MGMT is a two-person band but they made lots of creative works.

The whole song provides a depressing tone. It’s about pain, lost, etc. All the words choice in the lyrics are sad. The fluid melody even highlights the sympathetic situation they are facing.

Their unique style makes this song absolutely a good choice of making a music video in an experimental way.

This is a very good choice of choosing this band because there are only two members. For the photoshoot for the covers and making the music video, it will be easier to arrange.

Idea of the cover:

I planned to design the album cover to be surrealist. Because a surrealist art provides something new that audience can’t see/experience in real life. So it’s new to the audience.

It has a feeling of abstract to audience so they would be curious and eager to know what’s their music about.

The different is, I planned my album cover to be photographed instead of being painted. I would like to photograph the band members and merge it with other materials to make it look surrealist by Photoshop.

Title: The titles on the album is not in a large font. Instead, they are put aside on the cover so the cover art/photograph can become the focal point of the whole frame.

Release date

MGMT are formed by two young men. They usually provides an active, young image. But in ‘Mystery Disease’, it’s a bit different. The tone is slow and sad.

Therefore, the tone of it will be dark and slow-paced.
