Top Ten Coolest Summer Cocktails
Margarita
A classic cocktail prepared out of lime juice, tequila, ice cubes, superfine sugar and
triple sec; Margarita was developed for the first time by the bartender of Tailor
Restaurant in New York City – Eben Freeman. Moreover the presence of Reposado
tequila in the drink offers it a smooth smoky flavour. For those of you who desires
for a deep vegetal flavour can substitute it with blanco tequila.
Rum Punch
Credit goes to Nikki Elkins for introducing the perfect summer time drink. It
was her trip to Honduras that has given birth to the popular cocktail made
by mixing Orange juice, ginger ale, grenadine, Pineapple Juice, ice and rum.
The drink bears somewhat a pinkish colour with a typical Caribbean taste.
It can even be offered with lime to best suit the summer heat. During the
sweating months when one normally feels like having more of alcohol with
buddies, Rum Punch can serve as one of the best options.
Tequila
Composed out of the blue agave plant, the Tequila is regarded as the most
regulated spirits in the world. Moreover, after the turn of the twenty first
century, the recognition of the spirit has increased so much that today in
the United States it has the maximum production among all sorts of
alcoholic drinks. It is native to the northwest highlands of western Mexico.
Now a trend among the mainstream Americans, the drink was originally
associated with Mexican ranchers, bandits and cowboys.
Margarita
Allowing the drinker to satisfy his summer quench with the complex taste of
Margarita, the drink is basically a cocktail comprising of lemon juice,
tequila, salt, triple sec and lime. Though the exact date of its birth is not
known, it is considered that margarita started showing up in bars since
1938 and had gradually became the most familiar tequila-based alcoholic
combination in the United States. Furthermore, during 1953 December, the
cocktail was announced as the “Drink of the Month” by Esquire magazine.
Vodka
A distilled spirit consisting of water and alcohol in its purest form, Vodka is
actually a Russian drink. It is widely consumed all over Russia, Poland,
Ukraine, Latvia, Czech Republic, Estonia and Lithuania along with other
parts of Baltic Sea and Eastern Europe. Even in the US it has surpassed
whisky long back due to its negligible flavour which serves great when
consumed as a cocktail. Prepared out of fermented grain refined or potatoes,
Vodka is as well known to have 40% of alcohol content.
Rum
A major player among the Caribbean and the West Indies, Rum’s
history can traced back to the days of slavery, British navy and
pirates. The distilled beverage is not only consumed as a drink or
cocktail but has even proved to be an awesome ingredient for a
number of recipes. Its name is thought to have originated from
the English word – rumbullion, meaning uproar since that is the
effect it has on its drinkers.
Jager
Basically used as shots, jager or Jägermeister is an intoxicating drink with
its roots in Germany. Also a flagship of Mast-Jägermeister SE, it is created
out of spices, fruits, roots and herbs. It tastes great when consumed with ice
and offers a sweet flavour. A bottle of Jager can be easily recognised by the
glowing Christian cross between the antlers of a stag. Though, initially it
was meant to be consumed by high ranking officials, now-a-day such a
concept got buried with the passage of time.
Soju
Rated as the best Korean alcoholic drink in the world, Soju is colourless and
clear beverage which is usually consumed neat. The drink is produced out
of wheat, rice and barley although these days sweet potatoes, potatoes and
tapioca are used as a replacement. Soju has started entering the US and
London alcohol market followed by demands from 80 other nations. Its
alcohol content is said to vary from 6.7% to 45%.
Absinthe
Highly intoxicating in nature, the Absinthe is an anise-flavoured spirit
prepared out of flowers and leaves of the grand wormwood along with sweet
fennel, green anise and other culinary and medicinal herbs. Due to its high
level of alcohol volume, it is normally consumed by mixing it with water.
Apart from its popularity as a top alcoholic drink, it is as well notorious as
the dangerously addictive psychoactive drug due to the presence of thujone.
Beer
Prepared by fermenting sugar and the saccharification of starch, beer makes
the last entry among the top 10 alcoholic drinks known to the world.
According to research, 39% of the drinkers in America prefer beer as
compared to other intoxicating liquors. Considered to be the oldest
fermented beverage, it is as well the most consumed liquid after water and
tea. Though generally, beers bear 4% to 6% of alcohol, these days there are
breweries responsible for creating 40% ABV.
