2. Dr. David Brust, an exotic pet veterinarian andowner of sugar gliders, says that most illnessesin the marsupial result from improper diet. In his web videos, Dr. Brust warns sugar gliderowners that they should limit the number oftreats they give their gliders. Occasional treats are fine, and it is enjoyable towatch the tiny creatures savor their snacks. However, Dr. Brust says that a sugar glider ismuch like a human child. If you give thecreature the choice between a treat andnourishing food, it will pick the treat. 3. Dr. Brust recommends feeding the pets onlyone treat a day, the equivalent of half ablueberry per pet. He also advises owners to introduce new treatsgradually to reduce stomach upset, and torefrain from giving treats to baby gliders whohave been out of the pouch for fewer than 14weeks. Babies have delicate digestive systems andshould eat only nourishing food. 4. Finally, Dr. Brust says that while dried fruit isan excellent treat for sugar gliders, they shouldonly eat organic dried fruit. Non-organic dried fruit can contain smallamounts of toxins. It doesnt necessarily harmhumans, but a tiny sugar glider can quicklybecome overwhelmed. With proper care and nutrition, Dr. Brustassures owners that their sugar gliders willremain happy and healthy for a long time.
