THE HISTORY

BEHIND THE

NAME

Finding Your Feet Fashion (FyFF) is the brainchild of

Jane Larbi. Jane’s inspiration came from receiving the prestigious Diana Award in 2006, a charity which was

established in 1999 in honour of the late Princess for her work with charitable organisations and who in later

years became a world fashion icon.

After Jane received the Award for her work within the

community which harnessed young people to collaborate on their love of fashion and provided

inspiration for many other young designers, Jane

wanted to give something back to the Award for their continued support in her tireless efforts to support

talented young individuals and went on to produce the first ever Finding Your Feet Fashion show in 2009 at

Movida.

Finding Your Feet Fashion

(FyFF) is a social enterprise and limited company providing young people with exposure to the fashion industry and experience in all aspects of events

management from marketing to choreography, stage design to project management. The event showcases the work of creative, innovative and unique graduate designers,

who are at the start of their journey in the fashion industry and provides introductions to established designers and fashion industry experts who can help realize their dreams

of a career in the fashion industry.

WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?

Jane’s vision was simple; to launch a unique platform to help young students fresh out of college and

university, (including the London College of Fashion and Central St Martins), the chance to showcase their

collections alongside already established designers. This gives the graduates the opportunity to not only

exhibit their work, but to meet with fashion industry experts. At the same time, Jane did not lose sight of

wishing to raise money for the charity that had helped her progress in her love of fashion and so used the

fashion show event to also raise money for the Award on the evening through ticket sales and auction prizes. Such was the success of the evening, which was attend by many fashion and beauty experts, luxury

brands & corporate sponsors (see end page of sponsors to date) including a whole host of VIP guests, that

Jane decided to turn her simple vision into reality and incorporated the company Finding Your Feet Fashion

(FyFF) in 2011.

To date Finding Your

Feet Fashion, has

notched up 3 shows,

and has raised over

£35,000 for various

charities with a 4th

show confirmed for 20th

September, with

introductory host and

special guest, Zac

Goldsmith, in aid of Kids

Out and School Food

Matters.

Why are we doing this?

The unique selling point of the shows is that they are accessible to those in the wider student

community as well as the general public but crucially, those within the industry. The graduates

not only get the chance to showcase their collection alongside established designers, but the

graduate also gains the experience of exhibiting outside of the university environment, at

virtually no or minimal cost to them.

Director and FyFF Partner, Lyndsey Gregson, who worked with Jane across the shows states:-

“Finding Your Feet Fashion is a social enterprise which provides graduates with the opportunity

to showcase their collection with a unique twist: not only is the show accessible to those in the

wider student community, it also provides a platform from which our countries talented young

designers are given the opportunity to meet established designers and show their work to

fashion industry experts. This gives graduates who might not otherwise get the chance to

exhibit in a forum which they can use as a stepping stone. Given the escalation of university

fees and the costs involved to create collections to be exhibited at events we help bridge that

crucial gap between graduates and the industry.”

For Jane Larbi, founder and Director

of FyFF, Finding Your Feet Fashion is

all about recognising excellence in

fashion.

“It is a personal honour and an

absolute pleasure to highlight the

talent of graduates, which is what

we do and what I wanted to

personally set out to do with FyFF.

Ultimately it is about helping young

people in the fashion industry

develop their skills and training in all

areas from media to design to work

together, and to believe in

themselves and their abilities.

Through the show, the annual and

the way in which we work with other

professional bodies such as

universities and fashion houses,

students can gain more exposure to

those in the fashion industry in order

to help get their first step on that

very important career ladder”

Each of these categories is specifically tailored to suit the needs of young people who want to get involved with the project. At the end of the fashion show, they should have concrete work experience to put on their CV’s. The established designers and sponsors wherever possible will be able to offer expert advice on how to complete tasks with efficiency I would take this out, it might give the idea that we will also expect experts to make time to advice the groups and although we do want that and hope that is the case, some experts might be put off and think this will take too much time but happy to offer say a day’s work experience or internship after the event. All groups will liaise with each other making sure that everyone is up to date with the correct information and all channels of communication have been covered under the guidance of the professionals who are staging the event.

Lyndsey Gregson, an Executive at Marwyn Investment

Management, and Associate Director at International

Creative Talent, previously worked within the media and

music industries, starting out as a Production Secretary for

the BBC on a host of shows, before working her way up the

career ladder to Marketing Manager within the music

industry. Lyndsey went onto work with such prestigious

artists as Madonna, All Saints, U2, Faith No More, Echo &

The Bunnymen, Prince, Destiny’s Child, The Sugar Babes,

and New Order, which gave her a real eclectic mix of talent

to market from album releases to tours. It was during her

time within the music industry her real love of fashion

shone through when commissioning video and photo

shoots for various record label artists that she simply said

‘it was then my biggest love affair took place and I fell

head over heels in love with fashion in all its forms and

guises, and haven’t been able to let go since’. During her

career, Lyndsey has always taken time out to be involved

in fund raising activities and events for various charities,

incl, The Diana Award, Oxfam, The Clinton Foundation,

GOSH and Cancer Research, on both a personal and or

professional level.

Jane Larbi, a young entrepreneur has channeled her

business mind into FyFF growing from strength to

strength. Setting up the project as a 17 year old, she

has continued to look for new ways for the idea to

evolve and grow. Jane studied an undergraduate in

Philosophy and went on to do a postgraduate in law.

FyFF has continued to flourish under her leadership

and she hopes to take the team to greater heights.
