The Fur IndustryFur-bearing Animals: Foxes, racoons, minks, coyotes, bobcats, lynxes, opossoms, nutria, beavers, muskrats, otters and many other fur-bearing animals are killed daily on fur farms by anal and vaginal electrocution and in the wild by drowning, trapping, or beating. Animal TestingAs most governments do not require a complete figure of all animals used in experiments, there is no exact number of animals used. Estimates vary from 20-70 Million (per year).

The vast majority of animals used (around 90%) are rats, mice, specifically bred for the purpose of laboratory research.

Puppy MillsThe lack of public awareness of conditions puppy mill dogs live in and the continued demand for puppies at pet stores, online and through newspapers has led to the abuse, neglect and suffering of thousands of puppies.

The dogs spend most, if not all, their time in a kennel or left out doors without proper shelter. Females are bred repeatedly until their fertility declines at which point they are auctioned to other puppy mills or killed.

Farming PracticesThe abuse of some farm animals include…

Pigs many pigs never see the daylight, others are used as living, breeding machines. Pigs are born and raised inside buildings that have automated water, feed, and waste removal. Dust, dirt, and toxic gases from the pigs waste create an unsanitary environment that encourages the onset of a number of diseases and illnesses. Including pneumonia and cholera just to name a few.

Farming PracticesThe abuse of some farm animals include…

Cattle/Cows/Veal Calves these are giants of the bunch; gentle, curious and clever. Veal calves spend most of their lives alone and deprived of light for a large portion of their 4 month lives. Dairy cows can produce milk about 10 months after being born. When these cows become unable to produce adequate amounts of milk they are sent to slaughter so that money can be made from their flesh.

Slaughter HousesThe chief investigator for the humane farming association interviewed dozens of slaughterhouse workers throughout the country. Every single one admitted to abusing animals or neglecting to report those who did.

HoardingAnimal hoarding sometimes referred to as collecting continues to struggle with public misconception. Law enforcement often view hoarders to be someone who meant well but the situation got out of hand down the street.

Denial of the inability to provide this minimum care and the impact of the failure on the animals dwelling. While their intentions might have been good, the reality of hoarding is far from sweet.

It is up to us to take a stand and use our voices to help protect animals. It is a big responsibility but there are many ways we can speak up for them.

- Take care of the animals you have and encourage others to do the same.

- Volunteer/Donate to a local rescue shelter.

- Get involved with your local government.

- Report violations of animal rights to the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and other support organizations.
