Weight

One of the first disadvantages of plastic arrow fletching is their weight. Arrows equipped with feathers will weigh less than those that use plastic vanes. Therefore, they will travel faster and have higher accuracy over longer ranges. Plastic arrow fletching also increases the distance it takes for the arrow to stabilize itself.

Temperature

Disadvantage of plastic arrow fletching is that it will lose some of its flexibility due to temperature changes. When temperatures rise, the plastic vanes may become limp. Cold weather may cause them to become too stiff and deteriorate. Arrow fletching that uses feathers never have any of these problems.

Adhesion

Proper adhesion is often another disadvantage of plastic arrow fletching. It is sometimes difficult to get the plastic vanes to stay on the arrow properly.
