How To Safely Teach Your Toddler To Swim
Don’t Teach Them To Jump Straight In
Develop a routine that must be completed every time before your toddler gets into the water. This will prevent them from jumping in unexpectedly, without your knowledge.
Don’t Rely On Floating Toys
Although water toys or floats can aid with learning to swim, they should not be relied on.Relying on these can cause your toddler to feel more secure than they should, and they’ll not know what to do if the float slips away.
Make Safety Your Mantra
It’s always better to be safe than sorry. Always practice all safety exercises exactly as directed. This also means doing things that you may not want to do, like teaching your toddler to safely go underwater, even if they don’t want to learn.
Stay Close At All Times
Always stay within grabbing distance in case of an emergency. You should also learn to swim yourself if you don’t already know how.
Stay Calm
Your fear and anxiety can be passed on to your child. Being too fearful can cause your child to become fearful of the water themselves, and it will be difficult to get them to go back in the future.
Other Tips
Get professional swimming lessons from a certified instructor.
Never leave your children to swim on their own.Create a barrier around any pools in or around your
home.Don’t force them to swim right this minute.Try to go to the pool when it’s not so crowded.
