The Loveliest Guest

• You know those lovely guests that you invite to your dinner parties, barbecues, house-warming events… they come in, showing real interest in how you are and take care to make sure you feel amazing about the house, family, pets etc. They gush about the delicious food, they keep conversations flowing beautifully and are a pleasure to have there (that is sometimes why you invite them!). They also always bring a gift. One you actually like!

Becoming the Loveliest Guest

• I don’t know about you, but I would like to be thought of as a lovely guest. Sometimes I take wine as a gift, as do a lot of people, but I often wonder if it’s the best idea, as it often gets drunk during the night, and so the host doesn’t get to truly enjoy their gift! Especially if they aren’t big wine drinkers themselves. Flowers are another obvious choice, but I often worry that they will shrivel and quickly become a problem to deal with, rather than joy.

• I thought I’d share a few gifts that I generally take anytime I’m attending an event at someone’s house. You may have some ideas to contribute too, please do!

Salad bowls as barbecue gifts• For the barbies where you take a plate of food, I like to

place my salad in a bowl that they can keep as a gift! By simply putting some decoration on it like a ribbon shows you mean for them to keep it! http://alittlesomething.com.au/nuuk-set-of-3-glass-bowls.html. I’ve also used a quiche flan dishhttp://alittlesomething.com.au/the-best-ever-quiche-dish.html with a recipe scribed in already! It was an absolute hit with the host (who is a bit of a novice cook)!

Games as dinner party giftsDinner Party games (I’m not meaning Monopoly here), that you can gift to the hostess are a great way of providing some after dinner entertainment. It works particularly well when the guests don’t know each other. Little trivia kits, word scrabble or origami http://alittlesomething.com.au/tabletop-origami.html are great ways to keep the dinner party in full swing!

House-warming Gift Ideas

• Candles are one of the best house-warming gift ideas I’ve come across• Soy candles that have long burning hours and beautiful fresh scents. It’s a

good idea to find a candle that matches the personality of the host… if they love the outdoors, this one is good http://alittlesomething.com.au/outdoor-candle-citronella.html, or if they seem more classical, perhaps this one http://alittlesomething.com.au/cote-d-azur-candle-orange-flower-neroli-musk.html. Or, if they are a bit arty I’ll find one that has artistic flair http://alittlesomething.com.au/scented-candle-lilac-iris.html.

• Candles are a much better gift than flowers mainly because they last longer, and don’t become a hassle when you need to throw them out. Also, they are usually half the price of a decent bouquet!
