First presentation of Cooperrider ’s work on Appreciative Inquiry. His work is first not well
received.
A bit of history
In 1980 an Organizational Development student at Case Western University in Cleveland, David Cooperrider starts a PhD research on the Cleveland Clinic, an 8000 people well known body in the health care industry. His aim is to « explore, describe and propose an action oriented approach to organizational inquiry which is uniquely intended for the study and enhancement of organizational innovation » .Working over 5 years with several teams in the clinic, all levels of management, and functional roles in the organisation, He progressively creates an approach aimed at developing an « egalitarian organisation ». This work has initiated a vast movement worldwide in various contexts : public sector, private businesses, non -profit, education, religious organisations, consulting, personal development, coaching …
