EARLY LIFEEARLY LIFE• Born on October 28, 1955

in Seattle, Washington, America.

• EDUCATION 1967 Bill Gates had a normal

schooling at the Lakeside private school.

1973 He entered Harvard

University but dropped out in 1975 for the sake of building up the Software empire.

• Wrote his first computer program for playing tic tac toe at the age of 13.

• Developed a version of BASIC programming language for the MITS Altair computer.

• Launched Microsoft with his childhood friend Paul Allen.

BEGINNING OF BEGINNING OF MICROSOFTMICROSOFT

• Founded April 4 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen.

• They developed a language for the Altair 8800, called Altair BASIC.

• This code was distributed with the Altair 8800 system, making it Microsoft's first distributed code in companies such as Commodore, Texas Instruments, etc.

IBM PARTNERSHIPIBM PARTNERSHIP• IBM approached Microsoft in July 1980

regarding its upcoming personal computer.• Gates referred them to Digital

Research (DRI) for the OS needed by IBM.• IBM's discussions with Digital Research went

poorly, and they did not reach a licensing agreement.

• A few weeks later Gates proposed using 86-DOS (QDOS), an operating system similar to CP/M that Tim Paterson of Seattle Computer Products (SCP) had made for hardware similar to the PC.

• Microsoft made a deal with SCP to become the exclusive licensing agent, and later the full owner, of 86-DOS. After adapting the operating system for the PC, Microsoft delivered it to IBM as PC DOS in exchange for a one-time fee of $50,000.
