1. Slow down and pull aside. As soon as you see the accident happen, slow down, pull off

to the side of the road, and turn on your hazard lights.

2. Leave room for the ambulance. When you pull off to the side, make sure you leave enough

room for the ambulance to park and get to the victims quickly.

3. Check on the victims. Check to see if anyone is injured. At this point, you’re trying

to assess what happened, so keep your distance from the vehicle, and don’t touch any of the people in the accident.

4. Call 911. Call 911 as soon as possible. Be prepared to answer

questions and to provide as much information as you can. You should know the location and how many people are badly injured.

5. Don’t move the victim. If the victim is injured and you try to move him, you could be

hurting him more than helping him. The only time it would be ok to move someone is if he is in a burning vehicle or in another dangerous scenario.

6. If you’re qualified, try to help. If you’re a doctor or you know CPR, you have the training

and qualifications to help. You have the potential to save someone’s life.

7. Help keep traffic moving. Tell any spectators who are slowing down and stopping just

to see what happened to move along. The situation will only get more dangerous if people stop to check things out.

8. Tell the police what you saw. Tell the police exactly what you saw. Draw a picture of how

the accident happened to clarify the details. Stick to the facts and don’t leave anything out.

9. Encourage the victim to call a personal injury attorney. If the victim is conscious and able to listen and understand,

encourage him to get help from a personal injury attorney.

A personal injury attorney, like one found at Craig Swapp & Associates, can help the injured victim get the compensation he’ll need for losing wages and paying medical bills due to his injury from the accident.
