RDI vs Hub
RDI• Ceases to exist end 2015
• Highly simplified, centralised technical architecture – focus on data flows
• Limited content search
• LCC-based ontology
Hub• Ongoing operation
• Distributed, standards-based architecture
• Sophisticated identifier index
• Will re-use RDI Ontology
The RDI core model.
Transformation Hub
1. Rights data comes from “Sources” in a range of different media types and in a range of different proprietary and standard formats.
Sources in RDI may be Rightsholders, rights managers, technical platforms, trade associations or CHIs.
2. Rights data is transformed, communicated and aggregated through a central hub based on the LCC data model.

Implications for Europeana ECL
3.3 “European-wide accessible register”
• Doesn’t need to be a central register, could just be a central routing device.
• Could be developed using open source technology developed by Hub
• Could just be the Hub?
• Opportunity to integrate commercial and non-commercial uses?
