Basic components of a digital library

• Digital content and metadata• Soft IT infrastructure

– Software (digital library management system)

• Hard IT infrastructure– Service hardware (servers, storage, …)– Network connection and hardware

Basic components of a digital library

• All mentioned components generate costs

• In smaller institutions there may be no proper hard IT infrastructure to reuse for a digital library

• Apart from costs - lack of expertiseto cope with IT infrastructure

• How to simplify deploymentand reduce the cost of having a digital library without limiting its value for end users?
