! !

• Packaging a Skill Cartridge® and applying it to the corpus involves the close collaboration of several know-hows/teams :

• Subject Matter Experts • Linguistics experts • IT experts…

• Analyzing results to see how close you are to your goals is a further step in the process

• In a disconnected workflow, it often requires the use of a separate, dedicated application

• Results analysis often reveals weaknesses or areas of improvement in the ontology, and ways the extraction engine can complement them.

Simplified Maintenance & Creation

Seamless synchronization Accelerated

Verification & Improvement

• ‘Making’ the Skill Cartridge® is transparent for end users

• Preview feature shows annotation results to end-users in real time

• From the same interface, users can fine-tune annotation strategy

• Suggestions feature leverages NLP to show end-users how to improve their thesaurus

• Same feature can be used to build a thesaurus from scratch

Once the work is done, the user can export the final thesaurus in various formats such as SKOS

Luxid WebStudio as a Thesaurus Editor

The WebStudio give the user access to the Thesaurus in a easy-to-browse tree.

Each concept can hold detailed knowledge about the way this concept needs to be handled.

A WebStudio project may contain not only a thesaurus but also a document corpus

A user can add documents directly into the WebStudio

By clicking on „Preview“ the user can see where in a document corpus a given concept applies (results in a match)

This may also reveal new terms (like „domestic shorthair cat“)

Terms in a thesaurus may be ambiguous: „turkey“ is a bird but the uppercase „Turkey“ is a country. We don‘t want to treat „Turkey“ as a bird.

The user can specify that this concept needs to be handled in a strict manner: i.e. the „case“ information must be maintained

„Turkey“ is then no longer

extracted

Suggestion of relevant terms

The WebStudio Relevant Term Finder feature can suggest potentially interesting, terms (not yet in the thesaurus)

Search for „shark“

- Drag and drop

them into the

„sharks“ concept

of the thesaurus!

Include Synonyms

The WebStudio can also suggest new synonyms based on DBPedia and additional analysis

Here new synonyms for „cats“ are suggested.

Synonyms come with types (there are „cats“ animals, the „cats“ musical, …)

Can accelerate the creation/extension of a thesaurus in a new domain

Automated Suggestions Identify relevant concepts in your corpus

• Suggestions feature can be customized by using any Skill Cartridge®

• In this example the TM360 SC® identifies names of Companies, Organizations and People present in the corpus but not in the ontology
