My Topic The Combustion Engine

Page 13: Energy exam

The Combustion engineThe engine burns petrol instead of coal.

An internal combustion engine burns fuel inside various cylinders. Combustion engines have a four-stroke cycle: intake compression, combustion –power and

exhaust.

1. The four stroke cycle - intake valve opens. Piston descends from top to bottom of cylinder and a mixture of fuel and air enters the cylinder.

2. Intake

3. Compression combustion – power

4. Exhaust

SummaryFOUR STROKE ENGINEIs an internal combustion engine in which the piston completes four separate strokes which comprise a singlethermodynamic cycle. A stroke refers to the full travel ofthe piston along the cylinder, in either direction.

THE HISTORY OF MYTOPIC

First four stroke machine was invented by Nikolaus August Otto in 1876. He got problems in patenting the engine because many factories copied the invention but finally it was patented. Its products were sold in large amount already at the end of 1876Wilhelm Maybach also helped in constructing works.

Nikolaus was a salesman. One day, he saw a machine name Lenoir Engine, which had many defects. He tried to improve that machinebut he did not succeed. After that, Otto and Langen founded the company NA Otto And Company.

ADVANTAGES &

DISADVANTAGES

Emissions, Economy, Less Power Strokes , so longer life.

complicated, heavy, low power, expensive, sump oil very toxic.
