VESSELS OF UPPER LIMB

SUBCLAVIAN ARTERY

SUBCLAVIAN ARTERY• Extent: origin to outer border of 1st rib

• Parts: 3 with reference to scalenus anterior muscle

• Branches– 1st part: Vertebral, Internal thoracic & Thyrocervial

trunk

– 2nd part: Costocervical trunk

– 3rd part: Dorsal scapular artery

Axillary artery

Axillary artery

• Extent: 1st rib to teres major

• Parts: 3; with reference to

pectoralis minor

• Branches– 1st part: Superior thoracic

– 2nd part: thoracoacromian &

lat thoracic

– 3rd part: subscapular, ant

circumflex & post circumflex

• Extent: teres major to head of radius

• Branches:– Profonda brachii– Superior ulnar collateral– Inferior ulnar collateral– Nutrient to humerus– Radial– Ulnar

Brachial artery

Radial artery

• Extent: origin to between the heads of adductor pollicis

• Continuation: deep palmar arch

Radial artery: branches• Forearm– Radial recurrent artery– Palmar carpal branch– Superficial palmar branch

• Wrist– Dorsal carpal branch– First dorsal metacarpal

artery• Hand– Princeps pollicis– Radialis indicis– Deep palmer arch

Ulnar artery• Larger of 2 terminal

branches of brachial

artery

• Extent: origin to

transverse carpal

ligament

• Continuation:

superficial palmer

arch

Ulnar artery: branches• Anterior ulnar recurrent

• posterior ulnar recurrent

• common interosseous

• muscular artery

• Palmer carpal

• Dorsal carpal

• Deep palmer

• Superficial palmer arch

Palmer arches• Deep

– Radial artery + deep branch of ulnar

– At base of metacarpels & interossei

– covered by oblique head of the

adductor pollicis, the flexor tendons

of fingers and lumbricals

– Br: Palmer metacarpel arteries

• Superficial– Ulnar + sup br of radial

– At distal border of extended thumb

– Br: 3 common palmer digital
