Know which organic materials to look for
Organic mattresses will be made with all-natural materials such as certified organic wool, organic cotton, and/or natural latex. Organic wool is naturally resistant to flame and dust mites. Natural latex is derived from rubber trees
Stay away from conventional mattresses made with harmful
materialsMake sure you do not buy
mattresses that contain nylon, petroleum-based polyester, polyurethane foam and flame-retardant chemicals including silicone, boric acid, phosphates, melamine and polyvinylidene chloride.
Purchase a latex mattress if you have allergies
Latex mattresses will always be naturally resistant to dust mites, mildew and mold and are considered to be hypoallergenic
Buy an organic wool mattress if you sweat when you sleep
Wool absorbs moisture which works to wick moisture away from your body, helping you sleep cooler
Stick to buying latex or wool mattresses if you live in a hot
and humid
Since mold and mildew are more problematic in hot and humid climates, latex and wool will help eliminate those problems.
Stay away from organic mattresses that are not certified
All organic products must be properly certified and will endorse a label that specifies so according to the country you reside in. In the United States raw materials such as cotton can be USDA Organic but not a finished fabric or product. Finished mattresses can be certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), a standard recognized by the USDA and currently the only recognized organic standard certifying an entire mattress
