Occupational Identity

Fitness Whether it is going to the gym or playing sport,

fitness is an important occupation that relates to the concept of ‘doing’. It allows me to balance my

life as a student while also staying healthy.

Student‘Being’ a student is an occupation that helps shape

my identity. I have been a student for a large number of years and am still to this day. I enjoy

studying as it keeps me busy as well as socializing with classmates.

Occupational therapy This is an important occupation to me because it is relates to the concept of ‘becoming’. My goal is to become a qualified occupational therapist which will enable me to assist people in their recovery.

Socializing This occupation is important to me because it relates to the concept of ‘belonging’. I enjoy

socializing with my family and friends as well as meeting new people.

FarmingThis is an occupation that is important to me as I have lived on a farm my whole life. I feel a very

special connection with the occupation of farming because of my family history which dates back

over 100 years in New Zealand and even longer in India.

CultureBeing part of the Punjabi culture and Sikh religion

is an occupation that is important to me because it gives me a sense of identity as well as an

understanding of other cultures. I speak Punjabi and wear my Kara (bracelet) as a symbol of this,

as it part of my identity.

TravellingThis is an occupation that is important to me as it allows me to experience new places, cultures and people. I hope to visit as many places as I can, so

that I may broaden my view of the world.

MoviesWatching movies at the cinema is an occupation that is important to me because it allows me to

have some down time with friends who also enjoy watching them. I enjoy the social aspect of this

occupation a great deal.

CricketCricket is an occupation that is important to me

because I have played it for a large part of my life. The camaraderie with team mates and the

physical aspect are what I enjoy the most about the sport. I also like watching cricket.

MusicListening to music is an important occupation as it

allows me to get in the right frame of mind for whatever I am doing. I like all types of music, as

long as it is the right type for the moment.
