WHAT IS PRIVACY

• Patient information security includes the seps healthcare providers must take to guard patient’s “protected health information “commonly referred to as PHI, from unauthorized access or breaches of privacy.

WHAT IS CONFIDENTIALITY

•Confidentiality is one of the core duties of medical practices. It requires health care providers to keep a patient’s personal health information private unless consent to release the information is provided by the patient. Patients routinely share personal information with health care providers

• Health Insurance Portability and Affordability Act• Passed in congress in 1996 • Provides the ability to transfer and continue health insurance coverage for millions

of American workers and their families when they change or lose their jobs;• Reduces health care fraud and abuse;• Mandates industry-wide standards for health care information on electronic billing

CONCLUSION

• Protection patient information and confidetality is very important to health care organization. If a patient health information is not protected it can cause harm to the patient. Health care organization must have policies and procedures in place on how much information for a patient can be disclosed with conscent form the patient. HIPAA has rules and regulations for all covered entities and when these rules are violated the responsibility party will be sighted with a penalty.
