Social workers are often working with people who are very vulnerable and who enter into relationship of trust with them. It is therefore important that they take account of the unique circumstances of each person`s life, recognize and respect diversity, express care and compassion, exhibit empathy and act in ways that honor the trust placed in them by the people with whom they work.
Banks, S. (2006). Ethics and Values in Social Work, 71.
Analysis of the question: "What skills do you require for this work?"• Education and /or a degree are crucial• Practical placement• Understanding multiculturalism• Confidence• Procedural knowledge (working with the right tools)• Values

.."working with those at the margins of society, the disadvantaged and the oppressed, and given that immigrants and asylum seekers are among the most disadvantaged groups in society."
WHY IMMIGRANT SOCIAL WORK IS IMPORTANT
* Legislation and government policies affect immigration funding on a macro level* This has a domino effect if money is cut, trickling down from the macro level into the messo and micro level* 3rd sector organizations are often the first to feel the budget cuts* Immigrants are at risk of not having the sources and outlets to help them integrate into Finnish society* Basic subsidies such as housing, education, and job opportunities are also at risk because of depleted funds.
HOW THE MACRO LEVEL POLICIES TRICKLE DOWN INTO THE MICRO
HOW THE MICRO LEVEL AFFECTS THE MACRO* Micro level focused immigration organisations work with individuals to assist in their independence and assimilation into the Finnish society* Education, job/language training, cultural integration* These individuals eventually form groups and communities with similar goals* Several communities come together to affect a national social change
HOW ALL 3 SECTORS FIT TOGETHER
* When dealing with immigrants, the public, private and third sector have very similar goals: to provide marginalized people with the same opportunity as everyone else* The challenges are varied: cultural differences, language barriers, funding, legislation* Micro level interaction can have a direct influence on macro level policies, and vice versa – micro private may influence macro public
THE FUTURE PROSPECTS OF IMMIGRATION SOCIAL WORK
* Legislation is constantly changing due to shifting public views on how best to deal with the constant stream of immigrants entering the country* This a unique time in European history with immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers at record levels – and social workers are constantly on the front line, dealing with this new wave of mass migration* There will always be a place for immigration social work because immigration is inevitable and professionals are increasingly needed to be liasons between the immigrants and Finland's national interests.
